Can no longer use generic HID with Windows 7-worked in Vista

Post by kiboy6 »

Here's my situation:

I just upgraded my laptop from Vista to 7 (home premium in both).

On my old Vista installation I was able to get the crappy remote from my Korean cable box to communicate with EventGhost via the Generic HID plugin.

The laptop receives this signal via the usb dongle for a separate remote keyboard.

Unfortunately I can't remember exactly which version of EventGhost I was running under Vista, but it was fairly recent (last few months).

After installing Windows 7, I installed the latest Eventghost (0.3.7.r14360) and loaded the exact same config .xml I was using under Vista. Much to my dismay, and despite hours of playing around, I can no longer get Eventghost to recognise any input from the remote.

I get error message "multiple devices found. Don't know which to use". I have tried specifying which index no. to use; this removes the error message, but eventghost still doesn't receive any inputs from the remote.

Is there some change under Windows 7 that could cause this? If anyone has any suggestions I would be so grateful - this is driving me mad!

Thanks so much in advance :)

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm hoping from reading this post: http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtop ... f=2&t=2444 that maybe downgrading to EventGhost 0.3.7.r1262 might do the trick....that's given me a glimmer of hope anyway! Will try that out later today when i get back to my HTPC....

Well - tried every possible generic HID option I could last night for 2 frustrating hours but still no luck.

Perhaps I just got lucky with some strange combo of events with my old Vista set up.

After all, the remote I was using wasn't actually meant to communicate with the PC- the PC was just somehow picking up the signal through the dongle for my wireless keyboard! What's even stranger is that the keyboard is RF, and I'd be surprised if the Korean cable remote was sending a RF signal to TVs!?

Anyway, have ordered a designated remote now, so hopefully that will be the end of it!
