Problem with missing task.activated etc. events for one app.

Post by Peter52 »

Hi,

I seem to have a mis-behaving application, that I try to control through EventGhost. This is among other applications on the same PC, so I am usually using task.activated/deactivated events to switch folders/command sets.
The problem application has one or multiple windows, can be started manually or through EG, operated without problems etc.
But during all these operations, there are no Task.Activated/Deactivated/NewWindow/ClosedWindow/Created/Destroyed events whatsoever generated for this specific application.
For all other applications I can get these events.
"Log only assigned events" is not clicked, I can see all events in the window (also not used ones). So the Task plugin seems to work properly.
The application is a Karaoke player (trial available under www.abckaraoke.com/file/karaoke_jukebox_home_851.exe).

Am I missing a step to get the tasks activated for this application?
Or can anybody please point me to a workaround?

I am running Windows XP SP3, EG 0.3.7.r1387 (have tried r1436 and r1462 with same negative results).

Thanks in advance!

Does it show up under task manager? Maybe it runs as a service, not an app?

You could try this Process Watcher plugin.

@Brett: yes, it shows up in the Task Manager (with its correct exe name). It is not listed as service

@Jonib: I saw that feature in another thread, and wanted to try it out (likely tomorrow).
But I understood I can only get events when opening and closing the process/application, not when changing the focus between different applications.
Or is there an easy way to extend the ProcessWatcher with this function?

By the way: thanks for the quick replies!

I don't know exactly what events it generates but I need it for some programs when the Task plugin fails, worth a try.

Well ok, the ProcessWatcher can see creation and destruction of the application.
Only focus changes are still slipping through. Not bad, but unfortunately also not complete...

Any further help still appreciated.

@Jonib, you mention you "...need it [the ProcessWatcher] for some programs when the Task plugin fails...".
Can you see any similarity of the applications, where the task plugin fails?

Only program I can think of was XBMC that didn't make a Task.Destroyed.XBMC event but I have both a newer EventGhost and XBMC and I get that event now, so I don't now what made it work.
