What is the best way to control lighting with EventGhost?

Post by dt1000 »

Hello.
I am currently using Event Ghost and a USB-UIRT to enable smart control of my TV & Surround Amp from within XBMC.

If I wanted to control the lighting in my house, what hardware would I need?

Thanks,
Dan

One option is to get a Tellstick (www.telldus.se) USB dongle and a bunch of compatible switches/dimmers, e.g. Nexa, Technotrend etc and use the Tellstick plugin.

The FS20 system also works with EventGhost.

by no means the best, but probably the cheapset would be x10

eg:

I have an x10 system and it works sometimes...

For those that are familiar with Nexa, Proove and others, those are cheaper than X10 stuff and substantially cheaper than FS20 products

My experience is that they are working fine together with EG and related plug-ins

As for the PC interface, I believe the cheapest is to use a USB-UIRT with a Pyramid (remote extender) or a "home brewed" using AUREL modules

Alternativly a Telldus Tellstick or the new one when it arrives

The best and most professional is probably the RFXCOM products, a bit more expensive though

I use lutron radiora2 lighting control in my home. Not the cheapest but certainly the best.
