[SOLVED] Use the remote exclusively with one app

Post by anpuebla »

Hi all, I.m just wondering how can I make to EventGhost filter all the remote control inputs and manage only Mediaportal a not any other program, like windows 7.
I want to use the Pc while I have mediaportal open in the second monitor (lcd tv) so one can be using the remote with mediaportal and another person can be using the PC without the remote interfere with windows or any other program.
Now I can only use the remote with mediaportal, if it is the active window, so when I click on the first monitor with my mouse for example to open the window explorer the remote now controls windows or whatever application is active.

Any eventghost configuration recommendations? Thank you very much in advance

Are you using the Media Portal plugin in EventGhost? as it looks like it should send actions directly to Media Portal even if it's not in focus. Unfortunately I don't use Media Portal but I'm using XBMC in the way you want.

Thank you for ur reply,

Yes I.m using Mediaportal, and the mediaportal plugin. But still with the remote control, I can control windows 7 or any other program when they become active, (scroll, start button, etc) How did you set eventghost?

1) I installed eventghost
2) I disabled all the plugins except mediaportal

Thank you for any help.

Attach your EventGhost config.
1) I installed eventghost
2) I disabled all the plugins except mediaportal
What remote control/receiver do you use? and are you sure that only EventGhost is receiving its signal? as some remote controls/receivers send keystrokes directly bypassing EventGhost and you would need to disable that.

I have a generic remote, no brand specific.
It is recongnized by the system as HID interface i think.

Let's assume your remote works correctly.
And until we get Media portal working correctly I want you to disable all macros(the ones with orange cogs) and folders except MediaPortal.
And it appears you haven't actually assigned any remote events to Media Portal actions you need to read this help especially tha last part.

Thank for ur help.

After studying better the situation, I guess that this isnt working.

While having eventghost open, if I press any key on the remote, evenghost does not know what key I pressed, for example:

If i press the left arrow button on the remote, that action intearcts itself like if I pressed the lef arrow on the keyboard, so It will navigate to the left in evenghost app, and nothing happens in the log of eventghost, like no remote key was pressed.

I ques I need to disable HID funtions on windows, (dont know how) to by pass this function and evenghost see the remote key press actions.

Cheers

Jonib, thank you very much for your orientation.

I solved the problem!!! its was on the remote model itself, your link to generic HID lead me to this post

http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtop ... 2&start=75 so I got it working, all was needed a modified driver.

Thanx again, take care
