newbie setup help

I am using Beyond TV, and have setup EventGhost to launch the program, and have created a context folder with all the remote keys to control this program.

My confusion comes in when I want to switch to ZoomPlayer. I have setup a remote key to switch to ZoomPlayer, but I don't understand how to only use the ZoomPlayer context folder of commands to control the program after it has been launched. A lot of the commands are the same between BeyondTV and ZoomPlayer, but for instance the "pause" function is the "a" in ZoomPlayer and "spacebar" in BeyondTV. So when I hit the pause on the remote, it calls the signal for both programs.

I see the "exklusive" command, but don't understand how it works, and how to make it work.

Right now I just want to be able to control these (2) programs, and if I need to add others down the road, I will be able to. But for now, these are the only programs I need, but am having trouble finding out how to do this on my own.

Please help a newbie out!

Do you have read the wiki page "Controlling Your Living Room with EventGhost", especially the part about "Enabling Exclusives"?

For Zoom Player you should use the Zoom Player plugin, as it works more reliable and sophisticated than doing it with keystrokes.

I re-read the wiki closer, and did figure out how to use the exklusive to switch between context folders to make them active.

So I am now trying to modify the existing ZoomPlayer context folder that came with the program by dragging and dropping my remote codes onto the events for each macro(play, pause etc). So I tested a few, and the logger on the left side of the screen shows the remote code that is being transmitted, the ZoomPlayer function being called, but then I get the following (2) events listed:

ZoomPlayer.NoConnection
ZoomPlayer.close.

Nothing happens. I am close, but obviously I am missing something.

You must enable TCP/IP-Control in ZoomPlayer as stated in the "Help" of the Zoom Player plugin.

I am having a similar problem, but unlike you have been unable to fiure it out. I am trying to run SageTV and Zoomplayer. I have my context folders setup, but whenever I enter SageTV, eventghost sends the commands for SageTV and Zoomplayer. So pressing up actually gets sent twice...and so on. How do I fix this? I do not want SageTV to respond when I am using Zoom Player and vice versa.

As you can see here, you have to set up the "switch to mode"-macros, shown in the picture on the right hand side. The picture below shows, that there have to be at least two elements inside the macro:
1.) the event that you want to activate the keys for program1 (SageTV).
Just press the button you wish on your remote and drag & drop it to the macro.
2.) the "enable exclusive" command. Right-click inside the macro and choose "add command" (I don't know if it is "command" because I use the german version, but it should be something like that.) Then choose the "enable exclusive" command an press OK. You are then asked to select the directory. Choose your "SageTV" directory in the "Context Folder".

Repeat this for Zoomplayer. But choose a different event please, because this would become a bit complicated for the beginning.

When you did it correctly, the folder "SageTV" in the "Context Folder" should be activated, when you press the button you selected in the "switch to mode:SageTV"-macro and all other folders in the "Context Folder" are deactivated. If you then press the button you selected in the "switch to mode:Zoomplayer"-macro, the folder "Zoomplayer" is activated and "SageTV" is deactivated. This should be what you want.

When you downloaded a new version, there should be examples, that may help, if you have a look at them.

So you actually have to assign a button on the remote to switch between the modes? I was hoping it would switch between them based on which application has focus. And only the application with focus gets the commands.

You can switch between the modes depending on the focus, when you use the PlugIn "Create/Switch Task". When you add this PlugIn to your configuration, EG will create events when you change the focus (by clicking or Alt+TAB for example). Just use this event in the "switch to mode" macro instead of the event from the remote.

When there is more than one program, that uses an event (like the UP button in SageTV and Zoomplayer you mentioned above) EventGhost will execute every macro (that is not deactivated) that contains the "Up-event". It doesn't matter which program has focus. This is good, if you want to control a program in the background for example.
That's why you have to use the "enable-exclusive" command.

So I need to disable and enable context folders based on focus? Man am I ever getting confused. I have added the "create/switch Task" plugin. But how does it know which context folder goes with which focused app? I see no way of assigning this. Any chance you can post an example. Sorry for being thickheaded, I got alot of other things going on as well.

Ok, here is an example. I used Winamp and MediaPlayerClassic instead. I hope you will see the way it works. Just create a file "test.txt", copy and paste the following code into the file. Save the file and rename it to "test.xml". Start EventGhost, save your current config and open the test.xml in EventGhost.

This copy will not work. You have to copy the items through notepad or something similiar, but not through a webbrowser or such. They will destroy the right XML-structure.

Yes, and you do this by using the events, that EG creates when you have the Task Switch/Create Plugin loaded. When it is loaded, make sure that the checkbox in the status-bar is unchecked. You then should see events created in the logger on the left side everytime you change the focus of any program. They look like this: Task.Activated.SageTV. This is the event you have to put in your switch to mode-macros. One for SageTV (Task.Activated.SageTV) and one for Zoomplayer (Task.Activated.zoomplayer) or similar.

ahhhhhh that's the step I was missing I think. Thanks I'll try all this later today.
