This is made for rich people that buy Crestron and other super high-end systems. For those of us that make 'normal' incomes it is not reasonably affordable. This is why we are using free, or very low cost apps, like EventGhost, XBMC, etc. Otherwise I'd just get Control4 and have it all in one, high-end, mid-priced system.

If CF could just sell an an app like the one in the video with "no assembly required" (no designer needed) for a reasonable sum, like $20, they'd sell a lot. XBMC Remote, from Collect3, is a great example - it is $4, works very well, and does nearly everything needed by 99% of the people.

$135 is a bargain for CommandFusion! an iPad + CF is $635, compared to a Crestron or AMX touchscreen which costs several thousand dollars. It would be impossible for CF to make iViewer "no assembly required" since it is intended to communicate with anything and everything. There is no way they could know what your system setup and equipment are.

Collect3's remote can control XBMC, but that's it. It can't turn your lights off and on, manipulate eventghost, another control system or your audio video equipment. You can't view your security cameras on it, you can't pull weather and RSS feeds with it and you can't customize the interface. I started with C3's XBMC remote. @ $4 it's a great starting point. However, it doesn't work correctly. There are display glitches in the lists (which vary depending upon which version of XBMC you are running). But, then again, it was only $4.

Eventghost may be free but it is hardly "no assembly required" and certainly requires a "designer". If you can write a plugin for EventGhost, you're not going to have any problem creating custom interfaces in CF.

I don't have any more time tied up in the XBMC interface I created in the video above then I do writing plugins for EventGhost.

Let me clarify, my first comment was aimed at ONLY the XBMC interface - not all the other integration possibilities for CF. So, for this reason I said CF was expensive.

I half agree with you on the other parts. I did say, if you are a richie rich and have Crestron and others like it, this is a small part of the overall cost... but for those that made a normal income (sub $250K/yr) $135 per interface is expensive. There are other apps for DIYers that are as robust (or very close) to control all aspects of Home Automation & Home Theater that will cost far less than $135/device just for the UI - the $135/per does not include the "brains" to run your enviro/systems.

I can easily name about 5-10 apps that would beat the price/performance/functionality gap here - again CF is ONLY a UI and does not replace HA/HT apps, this is why it is expensive for the normal, non-wealthy, user.

It is a fantastic UI, NO DOUBT THERE... but for the cost of a few CF device licenses I can get an entire HA and/or HT app including a front-end that does just the same.

I'm with Livin on this! CF is too expensive for the average user to want to use this.

I have the iPhone without the phone (ipod touch) because I can't justify paying AT&T their absorbanant fee for data each month.

Call me cheap, but I don't have money to throw at every little gimick that comes around, and today, it's much easier to spend nickels and dimes everywhere. CF is a significant purchase IMO, that isn't justifyable, when there are so many other apps that are so much more reasonable, that can do nearly the same thing.

Price / cost is one thing (important of course) but I believe that Fiasco want's to show what he (proudly) has created and it looks great!

This shows how many possibilities there are using EG. Myself, I wish I had an Ipad even though a standard web interface would be enough for my needs

Please keep in mind, reasonable price -- the main competition is with iPad/iPhone apps and Android, as a distant 2nd but closing in faster daily.

I'm getting a Dell Streak (yes, they are not released yet ) so I can beta test on that if you'd like.
