Post by touchpro43 »

Touch IR+ Universal Remote for iPhone & iPod Touch with EventGhost integration has just released an iPad version!! Visit http://touch-ir.webs.com for more information and download the free companion PC software (including EventGhost plugin). Touch IR+ lets you build your own completely custom remote control screens, and additionally includes USB-UIRT, IRCommand2, and AutoHotKey integration, PC mouse & keyboard control, and more.

The iPhone/iPad/iPod app is available via the Apple App Store

I'd consider it if it worked directly with EG without the need to use Autohotkey and/or a separate server app. I don't need/want any other apps running on my PC as I already have several running for Home automation (Homeseer), Home Theater (XBMC & MediaPortal), J River Media Center (multi-zone audio), and EG to tie them together and receive IR commands from my USB-UIRT.

Touch IR+ looks like it would be a nice front end if I could use it as that alone and send/receive commands from all my apps.

If you want to consider supporting EG as the server side I'd be happy to help you test and get it vetted. If you decide to support the other apps too I think you would will really have a market changing app.
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

Touch IR+ does require a separate server app to design and configure your remote control screens (visual layout of UI elements, buttons, etc., and configuring the action for each button). However, once you have your remote screens designed and configured, Touch IR+ on the iPhone does interact directly with EG and the EG plugin (i.e. commands/events sent to EG do not pass through the server app). Also, using EG with Touch IR+ does not require using AutoHotKey in any way. That is a completely separate integration piece that is available only if desired. You can also use Touch IR+ as a custom remote control for HomeSeer via COM automation script (VBScript, etc.). There's an example of that on the Solutions page on the web site. http://touch-ir.webs.com.

I should have clarified with Homeseer - using vbs is not clean. I have several web pages I built/use since there is no real-time HS interface. Updates/refreshes suck. If you had a direct link into the API and/or could create a push mechanism for Homeseer then it would be much better - e.g. more usable.

Here's my web UIs. They are not the best but they work, mostly ;)

iPhone 'style', auto generates all pages from queries

All-In-One Mobile UI (manually specify the controls)

Again, I'm happy to beta test if you decide to design one.

Also, do you have any desire to port your app to Android? I have a 5" Dell Streak (Android Tablet) as my main device these days... my iPod Touch is going to be strictly for in-home control my multi-zone audio, home automation, etc. So both IOS and Android will be in regular use in my home. Having a cross platform app would be killer... and probably quite profitable ;)

I agree that writing to the HomeSeer API would be optimal, and I may add that integration in a future version. For now, the VBS doesn't seem that bad since it's not going through a web server for updates/refreshes. Touch IR+ communicates with the server over sockets, so none of the HTTP/web server overhead, so executes the script immediately on the button press. Understand there are limitations of using VBS, but again, seems to work well enough for now.

Yes, Android is probably in Touch IR's future, just no committment on timeframe. Lots of other features waiting on the priority list... :)

Thanks for the offer to help test. If/when I delve deeper into HomeSeer integration, I'll be in touch!
