Sleep timer for TV app.

This is one sweet app! I kid you not it took me maybe 1.5 hours to install and configure and control my bedroom machine, simply awesome. I'll recomend this to anyone playing with remotes.

One of the things I haven't figured out how to do is a sleep timer for BeyondTV link, I can give it focus and kill it but the timer has me stumped. If I choose Actions>EG>Wait some time, you need to wait that time before performing other transactions. That isn't desirable because I still need channel and volume controls. Wait some time is also limited to 999 seconds which isn't really long enough for me either.

One way is to use the "Timer" plugin.

I just had to fix some bugs on it, so grab the latest beta.

Then create a macro with a "Start Timer" action and the duration you want to use. Let this macro get triggered by every event your remote might give. You can use the wildcard-event-name X10.* for example, to get triggered on all "X10" events if you use this receiver.

So this timer will get started/restarted on every button press and if the configured time exceeds it will trigger an event you can use to start your "sleep macro".

Thats much better then your conventional TVs sleep button by a longshot! Now I'll never get it from the wife at 4am to shut it off because I forgot to hit the sleep button. It's automagic!

This seems like a great idea, but I am having trouble entering a duration. I am trying to set a duration of 30 minutes. It wants to force me to HH:MM:SS AM .... but will not accept 00 for HH ... and if I try 01:00:00 AM, then it errors.

I was hoping there was a way to do this with 30 loops and a 60 sec interval, but the event I setup to be triggered happened after one loop.

I know I am missing the boat on this one. Anyone have a tip to share?

The programmer of this plugin hasn't expected to run it on a locale setting with AM/PM time format. The control for the start time simply used the default locale settings and therefor switched to AM/PM format on your machine but the code expected to get a 24hours string. As a quick fix I have now forced the control to use 24hours format regardless of the country settings.

So grab the latest beta and we will see if it runs...

Make sure you are using the "timer" plugin unless you really want the thing to always shutdown at a specific time.

I did exactly what Bitmonster suggested, my timer runs against all commands, if no commands are sent after 2 hours it goes to screensaver.

The new compile works.

I created a timer with 1 loop for 1 sec that had a setting with duration = 30 min. It then triggers an event to put my system to standby, turn off tv, etc.

I have a macro that subscribes to System.Resume. I added a restart to the sleep timer.

I have a windows scheduled task that calls eventghost via the command line to go to standby on weekday mornings and all nights.

I will think about doing that in eventghost ... but it works well today.
