Direct Channel Select

Post by okhomer »

Hello. For starts great product. Just getting started with it. Now on to my question.

I am using MCE on a Windows 7 64 bit. I am trying to set it up to change the channel to go directly to that channel. So for example. When I press "11 enter" it will go to channel 11. I have the numbers and enter buttons set in event ghost but it will not go to the channel. Could anyone help?

Um, go to a channel in what? Control an external device? Set a channel in an application?

What plugin are you using? My MCE plugin or something else?

What happens now when you use the number keys (I'm not running tuners in MCE, so I'm not able to test)?

I am using my own set up. Not sure how to use the plugins yet. I hit 1 then 1 on the remote and on the screen it says 11 but then it clears. I have set the enter key to enter but not sure if that is what I need to do. Thanks.

Are events (something.Num1) showing up in the EG log window, or are they showing up directly in the MCE interface?

If they are showing up in the MCE interface and you haven't set up plugins then EG isn't involved at all. That is, an MCE remote/ir receiver will have Windows install a driver that works without EG being installed. You only need to set up EG (with plugins) if you want to do more than what the MCE remote does out of the box.

So you just want to create your own configuration and map remote codes to keyboard keys?

If so, then to answer your original question, you could just use a keyboard when MCE has focus and see what key (return/enter/escape/?) changes the channel. That's more of an MCE question, and I don't know the answer off hand.

The part of my question that the screen cap doesn't answer is whether or not EG is responding to remote signals, as you need to configure EG properly to get EG to handle MCE IR signals instead of a windows driver. Since I don't see any remote events in your log, I can't tell if EG is configured properly or not. Probably the easiest way to tell is to quit EG and open a Notepad window and then hit the number keys. If numbers show up in the Notepad window when EG isn't running, then the OS is responding to the remote and not EG.

Hope that helps,

I think that is what I am trying to ask. I didn't know if anyone knew what the keys were. Thanks.

I think I know what you are asking. I do have a MCE plugin set to disable HID service for the remote.

I use Media Center with a TV Tuner in Vista. When I type in a channel number which either does not exist, or for which there is currently no TV signal, the response is as you describe, ie no change of channel. MC isn't clever enough to go to the nearest channel with a TV picture, in my experience; so it just stays on the current channel. This applies when EventGhost is not even installed.

Does that help?
