new x10 remote problems

Ok I tried to save a little money when my firefly died and purchased this remote here

I figured since it was X10 and you said previously it should work I bought it. I can set the remote to different house codes A-P and no matter what I do I do not get an event. I was wondering if I needed a new driver besides the latest from snapstream. In the meantime at least it works as a good universal remote. Definitely not worth the shipping back and restocking fee since I dont think there is anything wrong with the remote.

Magically the firefly remote started working again so you can take your time on this one. I was just hoping to get some signal to prove the receiver was working. Dam thing I deleted and reinstalled the firefly software but it turns out the drivers must have been corrupted or something cause it works fine on my new PVR system. It would still be a bonus to get the X10 and IR under the new remote.

Hmm, that is odd but it might be possible, that this remote wont work together with the receiver on the PC. The X10-PC remotes and X10-RF-Housecode-Control (for dimmers and such) use a similiar protocol but the codes are actually not the same. So it could be, that they have not implemented the PC function on this remote.

So eventhough this one looks as many X10 PC remotes, it might not work as such.

ok makes sense to me thanks for your help. I guess next time Ill just buy another firefly. I examined the remote and the only buttons highlighted for X10 were on/off dim brighten. even if I did go through and program for the house codes I would have like 5 functions. I guess I should have found a sharper picture of the remote before I bought it.

Yes, these X10 remotes can be really mistakable.
Nearly all look the same or have at least a similiar layout (except the firefly) but some work as an RF PC remote, some as an universal IR remote, some only for X10 housecodes and some with a combination of the options.
