I don't understand why you want to delete all commits from the past?

The official SVN is http://www.eventghost.org/websvn/eventghost/trunk/, not on sourceforge. We are trying to move the EG version to SF, but it looks like some of the old commits are still on SF. We can't run svnsync to copy the EG version over when there is already data in the repo.

Make sense?

What's the exact history of the EventGhost repo?

dunno. You'd have to ask Bitmonster. I just know that the current EG can be pulled from EG and SF is out if date.

So there is already a copy of the repo on SF?

SourceForge: revisions 1-939
www.eventghost.org: revisions 1-1483

I have a local copy of both repositories.

So just ignore the existing SF repo and create a new one based on the eventghost.org one.
This is a good guide on git-svn: http://learn.github.com/p/git-svn.html

This perhaps attacking completely everyone.
But SourceForge is different than the GitHub.
On the SourceForge project name is as the base.
There can not have two projects named EventGhost.
I know that I can (in extreme case) to delete the entire project and start it again.
But I want to try to keep it as it was founded by Bitmonster!

I agree 100%.

I'll admit though that I know nothing about SVN. I do know that Bitmonster created all this and he is being kind enough to hand it all over to US.

Thanks again guys for all the work your doing.

since the repo on sourceforge was obviously abandoned a long time ago I don't see the problem in deleting it and then replacing it with the up-to-date version.

Either that or move it to github instead, since it seems that sourceforge is having problems.

Wouldn't the data on the old sourceforge version be a subset of the new svn anyway?

Yes, all the revisions that are in the SF repository are also in www.eventghost.org/svn repository.
But the project in SF is not just pure SVN repository. There are also some other settings and information about the project.
I would like (if possible) to keep as much in its original form.
And I would also like to EventGhost "brand" had preserved (uninterrupted) continuity since its inception.
I suppose that the problems that SourceForge now has will be resolved soon.

We are just talking about moving the repo to a new location, this is something that has got to be done. How does this affect the brand, other than to preserve it? I don't know what other settings you are trying to preserve from sourceforge (maybe there is something important there), but until recently almost no one even knew that there was still an old repository at sourceforge, and since the ultimate result is just to update it to represent the latest version as seen on eventghost.org I don't understand the problem.

I also don't see you proposing a solution. So how can we move forward? Maybe I have just misunderstood your previous posts. Do you have a plan?

In the interest of moving forward without delay, I propose another option:

Create a new repository on sourceforge called EventGhost 2011, or whatever. Then we are not destroying the old one. We can post links between the two projects, and of course we can try to recreate as much of the content from the original as possible.

The current old version at sourceforge is actually a problem for the project in general because if people see this page it is obvious to them that the eventGhost project is dead and abandoned, and so potential new users can be lost.

I have suggested EventGhost to people in the past that have said "oh, but isn't eventGhost dead?"

Does anyone know if it is possible to "rename" a project at sourceforge after it has been created?

Has Bitmonster handed over the SF Eventghost project so we can do everything with it?
If so update the svn repo with all commits from the eventghost.org one, can't be that hard!
