How to cControl multiple zone receiver - Teac AG-980

Hello,

I have a TEAC AG-980 dual zone receiver, with RS232C port. I'd like to control the receiver via RS232C potentially via a media player (XBMC preferred, one XBMC instance for each zone) and EventGhost. I did receive an explanation from TEAC regarding the RS232 codes. Each zone should have its own remote and independant music choice, though it should be possible for one zone to listen to the other zone as well of course. Ultimately, it comes down to having two sound cards, each having its own dedicated input in the receiver. The user can select which input he wants to listen to for each zone. Depending on that choice, he should be able to control the dedicated sound card/media player (XBMC?)
XBMC carries my preference because of its webserver support, but perhaps other players are better suited in this case.

I have multiple questions:
- (perhaps off topic) is XBMC a good choice for that ? Or if not, what media player ?
- how do I get started to have EventGhost work with the receiver and align it with a media player ?
- is it possible to have two instances of a mediaplayer (XBMC?) running (one for each zone) and do I need two instances of EventGhost as well (one for each zone) ? How can I prevent conflicts and keep the two zones separated ?
