I have an L shaped apartment living room/dining nook with several IR controlled fans and even an IR controlled A/C.
I would like to turn these on and off with my PC, presumably using an IR emitter like USB UIRT or the emitter from an Windows MCE HP Remote that I have.
This PC will be situation in about the middle of an L shaped room, with the emitter facing a white, stuccoed wall. There will be fans behind the plane of the emitter, and the A/C is perpendicular to the plane of the emitter.
What is the range or performance of typical IR emitters? Can I expect the emitter to work without using some form of booster?
If I need to boost the extender, do I need to use those RF IR extenders, or is there just a simple IR repeater, or, ... ?

there is no such thing as 'typical'... each emitter will have its own specs (range, power, angle, etc)
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system
