EG for backing up google contacts

Hi .. not much home automation I am trying to facilitate but rather just the (simple sounding) task to backup google contacts automatically.
What I want to do is fire up firefox (daily) to full screen and then click the export link. Strange EG doesn't always maximize the windows on first run. If I run the maximize task manually it works. Then it doesn't move the mouse even though the single task can and the click doesn't work. On the second run the macro seems to get further than on the first run.

Could someone with more exprience (I am a first time user):


If I manage to drop the export file to a folder the next challenge would be to rename the file (eg. append date/time) and copy it to the backup folder.

BTW .. Is there some means to simply record tasks. I see the option what to include in recoding but I don't see a rec button .. possibly this just means recording2log.

Any heads-up or pointer is welcome.

Perhaps there's a better way of exporting contacts instead of moving the mouse and clicking. Which URL are you using to export contacts?

You might be a victim of timing issues since it sometimes works and sometimes not. EventGhost will launch firefox.exe and immediately try to maximize it but Firefox might not have finished loading. You could insert a Wait Some Time action to let EventGhost wait 1 second or so before issuing the maximize command. However this might not mean a 100% success ratio since sometimes Firefox might need 2.5 seconds or more to start up and finish loading the page...

To rename a file you can use a Python Script. This will append today's date to a file:

I'm not aware of any recording functions in EventGhost.

Thanks .. I had a look at what the export button does but it's not as easy as copying a link. It sends a form and before sending the form you have to push a radio button to have all entries exported .. I believe I am not capable enough to put together a URL for EventGhost.
