EventGhost won't close XBMC
EventGhost won't close XBMC
I saw another topic on this, but don't think it is the same issue.
System:
Win7 x64
XBMC 10.1
Aeon Flux skin
Eventghost w/ XBMC2 plugin
I am trying to setup Hulu/XBMC integration and cannot get XBMC to close with Eventghost.
I launch hulu with XBMC launcher. hulu launches, creates an event, which triggers a macro in EG. I have tried to do the following to close XBMC...XBMC2:Quit, Find Window:xbmc > XBMC2: Close, Find window:XBMC > Close, Find Window:XBMC > Alt+F4. none of these work.
If I hit Alt+F4 on the keyboard, XBMC closes right away. Its like XBMC is refusing commands from EG. I have verified all http server settings are enabled and allowed in XBMC. I have also verified the correct port is set in the XBMC2 plugin (127.0.0.1:8080).
Alternatively, my other EG commands work. I.E. When I close Hulu, XBMC will relaunch in fullscreen as configured.
Any ideas on this? It's driving me crazy!

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
XBMC2:Quit seems to work fine for me in both 10.1 and the prerelease I have installed. Do the other XBMC2 actions work? have you tried to execute XBMC2:Quit manually does it work?jmoe816 wrote:I launch hulu with XBMC launcher. hulu launches, creates an event, which triggers a macro in EG. Anything in EventGhosts log or XBMCs log?

Had XBMC opened (minimized) and clicked TEST on the XBMC2:Quit action. XBMCclosed successfully. Just doesn't seem to work when XBMC is maximized. I can see in the EG log that the trigger task kicks off the macro successfully, and the XBMC2:Quit action runs, however, XBMC doesn't close.
Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
Also, I just tested this...
I setup a macro that uses XBMC2:Quit XBMC when 'M' is pressed. After loading XBMC and hitting "M", XBMC quits successfully. Now I'm really confused.
This is my process:
I'm using Launcher to lauch huludesktop.exe. it launches it in the background. When EG sees 'Task.Created. HuluDesktop', I want it to shutdown XBMC. This is where its failing. When I launch Hulu Desktop from XBMC it launches successfully in the background. I can seethe XBMC screen flicker during this process.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
Ok, one more thing I did...
I found the option "Use fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen." and enabled it. This allowed Hulu to open on top of XBMC, but I still could not get XBMC to close. I tried several different ways of getting Hulu to focus on top of XBMC, including a couple tutorials found in the XBMC support forum. I could not get Hulu to focus.
I still would like to close XBMC When Task.Created.hulu desktop. I know I can close XBMC if I create a macro where a keystroke triggers XBMC2:Quit XBMC. I think, though, there is some issue with windowing that is keeping me from closing XBMC with EG.
Thanks!

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
I think you need to attach your EventGhost config and also copy the log entries when XBMC is supposed to quit but doesn't.
Sounds like the XBMC2:quit action works correctly and its just not triggered correctly when it should quit.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
Thanks, Currently, when I launch Hulu Desktop from XBMC, hulu will launch, maximize, and move to front, but control still belongs to XBMC. I would like XBMC to close upon Hulu launch, and reopen as seen in the config file.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
As I don't have Hulu I put in the create and destroy events for mspaint.exe to test and your config worked fine for me.jmoe816 wrote:EG config: http://pastebin.com/embed_js.php?i=6SRE3Gu5
XBMC closed when I started mspaint.exe, and when I closed mspaint.exe, XBMC started.
So maybe Hulu is interfering somehow. Could you try another program instead of Hulu to verify?.
Actually I wanted the log entries from EventGhost when XBMC is supposed to close.XBMC log file: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4nSK8 ... liZjIzOWY0
Edit: You can attach files directly in posts here no need to use pastebin.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
Ok, I tried replacing hulu desktop with mspaint. When I launch mspaint.exe from Launcher, XBMC does in fact minimize and mspaint launches. However, XBMC still looks open in the taskbar and still shows as active in Task Manager. It looks like it freezes and has to be forcefully closed. I have attached the config file I used for this test. Below are the log entries for this test.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
I ran another test today...
If XBMC is open and I hit the Windows key, and open Hulu Desktop from the Start menu, it will launch will XBMC closes successfully. So the issue remains that when I launch Hulu Desktop from Launcher within XBMC, XBMC will not close.
Edit: When Hulu launches and XBMC is in the background, I can watch EG and the log entries do not appear. When I close Hulu, XBMC will also close, and the logs will appear in EG showing that the macro was successful. Its like when I open Hulu, EG doesn't recognize that the macro is completed until XBMC is closed, which doesn't happen until hulu is closed. Kind of like a black hole.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
I haven't used the built in launcher capability in XBMC so don't know how it works, but it sounds like it's waiting on Hulu to close before being active again. Do you need to start Hulu from XBMC or could you start it from EventGhost? or maybe you can start Hulu from XBMC via a script/batch file or something that closes right after Hulu starts and XBMC becomes responsive again.jmoe816 wrote:So the issue remains that when I launch Hulu Desktop from Launcher within XBMC, XBMC will not close.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
Thanks for the suggestions! I am willing to try other options, if you could please elaborate. I would still like to be able to trigger the event from XBMC. I have seen where you could launch Hulu with a custom button on the logitech harmony, but I am currently using a combination of three remotes to try and find the right fit for me. I'm thinking that by using a batch file you mean just a simple script that will call Hulu to open, then finish. EG will see Task.Created. Hulu, then can proceed with the macro to Close XBMC. My question about this, is how could I launch it from XBMC without using launcher?jonib wrote:I haven't used the built in launcher capability in XBMC so don't know how it works, but it sounds like it's waiting on Hulu to close before being active again. Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
I've been watching this thread a bit so it looks like you are at the point I thought you might get to... XBMC + Launcher = not perfect.
I came to this conclusion a long time ago with XBMC + Launch and also launching apps within Win7 MC.
OK so what now... one of two options...
1) ditch those methods completely and assign a button to your remote to close XBMC and launch whatever you want.
2) use XBMC to launch your app, then have EG close XBMC based on a trigger of Hulu opening.
What I do...
I assign IR remote buttons to specific apps to launch them.
When EG "sees" a new app launched, it closes any other open apps that could conflict.
... this has eliminated ALL problems and makes everything VERY fast. I've streamlined it over time to even do checks to ensure the app launches properly.
I can share the config file if you want.
In the end - use EG the way it was meant to (the "hub" to control everything) and forget trying to get other apps to behave - they will only dissapoint you.

Re: EventGhost won't close XBMC
@jmoe816
Is this the Launcher you are using?
And I was wondering why do you want to close XBMC when you launch Hulu?, is it for performance reasons or other.
Edit: Looks like this Advanced Launcher should work to start Hulu and then EventGhost is able to close XBMC right after.

I was using the first launcher, from the main repository. I have switched t Advanced Launcher and it is working correctly now!
I am closing XBMC mainly because it was closed in the tutorials I saw on XBMC/Hulu integration. I also thought it would be best to close it since I was having focus issues. I may revisit that decision now that it is working better.
Thanks for your help!
