getting started with EG -- hardware help

Post by woody777 »

I want to be able to control the volume on my Onkyo TX-SR706 using my Logitech DiNovo Mini. I'm certain this is possible using EventGhost, but I'm not sure how to connect my hardware in order to get started.

I have this old remote control: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Windows-Infrar ... =pd_cp_e_1, minus the IR emitter. The USB receiver has two 1/8" jacks on the back. I assume I could get an IR emitter, however, my receiver already has an IR input in the back -- could I simply connect an 1/8" cable from the USB receiver to the IR input?

Or, my receiver also has an RS232 port. Could I get something like this http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2 to connect my receiver to my htpc?

Would either of these connection methods work, and which one would be the easiest to work with EventGhost?

Also, I assume that even though the DiNovo Mini uses bluetooth, that doesn't affect being able to use it with EventGhost, does it? It doesn't matter how the input device hits the software, right?

Thanks!
