Sending SMS with EventGhost?
Is it possible to send an SMS with EventGhost? I have an automated HTPC set up with this guide and I would love to add a 'Send SMS' action at the end of my macros. Specifically, I would be sending to a Palm Pre (running WebOS) and a Droid X (running Android GB), just in case that matters.
It looks like someone tried to do this using GoogleVoice: http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtop ... f=2&t=3378
But that plugin doesn't work for me, i keep getting a "Number is not valid" and "You must login before using this page" error, even though I'm entering a standard 10 digit number, and I've entered my GV email and password on the plugin set up screen.
Any ideas? suggestions?

I think Pako is/has been working on/with a plugin for Snarl or Growl. I think those will do SMSs.
Search for those.

Neither appears to do SMS notifications (It looks like the Mac version of Growl might, but the Windows version does not)

Could you consider email? If you have a push mail account, normally you could get that into your phone

For what I'm trying to do SMS is really the only solution.
Re: Sending SMS with EventGhost?
Maybe a way could be Skype. I didn't see any plugin about it but eventually by skype it's possible to send sms...speedreeder wrote:For what I'm trying to do SMS is really the only solution.

Two options:
First is to use my Dovado UMR plugin, look in the plugin support forum. Drawback - requires a Dovado 3G router with a sim card dongle
Second is to sign up for an email to SMS gateway service. Some operators offer this service as part of their normal plan, where an email sent to [email protected] or similar gets forwarded as an SMS (only works if you are sending to yourself though). Others have it as an extra service and there are also specialised providers offering this service for a fee per SMS. Google SMS gateway. Drawback - costs money.

Re: Sending SMS with EventGhost?
In my project doggo (about to be released as soon as some bugs and the win7 install is completed) I use my own SSL SMTP service via stunnel and blat to send directly to GMAIL or YAHOO or HOTMAIL. This is convenient in the sense that I can use google voice than as well and sms people via that. This requires you to have a gmail voice account of course. And no, its not an open relay.
look forward to www.doggohouse.com
Maybe this week if I can get the code finalized.

You have been nagging about this for ages now. Wouldn't it be just simpler and better to announce it when it is really ready. Looking at your site gives nothing, just crap or empty space. You better shape up!In my project doggo

@Walter. No.
P.S. I offer a ton of help and resources in this project, I don't just promote an open source, completely free project that will be released when I deem it to be. If doing that while balancing the raising of 5 adopted teenagers from foster care, countless other teenagers and young adults I give my life to, a full time job and coaching basketball, and various other open source projects I am involved with, isn't going fast enough for you, feel free to step in at anytime with assistance. There are plenty of teens who need people with the overwhelming desire to give unsolicited advice to guide them on how to "shape up".

Dear Derek,
Sounds pretty much like my life too. But I guess is a matter of attitude & personality, myself I wouldn't make to much noise before things are really ready anyway, I looked at your site and there was really nothing substantially there.
I did however not mean to make you upset, I know you are doing a lot for this community (as I am), I was just a bit sarcastic that you where bragging about something that looks so unfinished.
My best regards, Walter

Re: Sending SMS with EventGhost?
The website is just a place holder until I am ready to launch. Doggo isn't just a program. Its a philosophy behind making the integration of Home Automation, Home Security, and Multimedia into a single system that is both elegant to use, and easy to configure. A way of thinking about problem solving that takes minutes instead of weeks (or in some cases months) to do simple things. Its delay is simply a redesign on how we will deliver it. Instead of a massive 700mb install we found a much easier, and elegant way to make doggo completely modular. So I decided to delay the release until this was fully tested on all platforms. You will fall in love with the project when its released, and realize how effective it will be in changing everything we do in our homes.
I think you will agree, there are many users who have to recreate the wheel everytime they want a cool system that does these things. Doggo makes it so everyone can have a phenomenal system, and the question will no longer be how to do it, and evolve into what else can we do with it. That's the beauty of free software.
At the heart is EG, used as more than just a remote controller, but a logic controller that is doggo's heart beat. I promise its coming very soon, and you will enjoy it, and I hope it will bring EG a ton of new followers and innovators.
No hard feelings, just wanted to put it into perspective.
As far as this post is concerned, I will release my code tonight for making blat and stunnel work together to use google, yahoo, or hotmail as a very convenient way to communicate via email or google voice's SMS. This method works great since it only runs when called, so it isn't an open relay, but allows users to unlock the potential of the features of these systems.

Re: Sending SMS with EventGhost?
Download Blat http://sourceforge.net/projects/blat/files/
and Stunnel ftp://ftp.stunnel.org/stunnel/
Use the attached stunnel.conf file for gmail. Or edit for either Hotmail or Yahoo configuration.
Install stunnel by typing stunnel -install then stunnel -start
Copy blat to c:\email
Copy the below code into your eventghost config.
Once done, you will see a setup blat macro. Provide blat with your login info inside the python script. Once you do, run the Setup Blat macro which will setup blat for your email. Now you can just drop events into the EventEmail macro and it auto email you everytime an event fires.
In gmail setup a forwarding address for anything with the subject line contained in the EventEmail macro to your cell phone. The following web site will help you setup your forwarding address.

Thats it, now your EG will email anything you want, and send you an SMS if you want as well.
