Hi Guys,
is there any way I can switch my systems audio output this way?
I looked up the plugins in EventGhost but didn't find any function that would help.
The only way I could imagine would be through emulated mouse clicks in the Windows settings - but that doesn't seem to be a good/clean solution to me.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Pint,
Been a while since I browsed these forums but I'm a regular EG user and love the app. I use it to control my air conditioner, garage and front door. To control my garage and front door I use a USB relay board which is controlled through a exe file. I use the 'Start Application' action in EG to run the command. No plugins required and works a treat. Whilst this doesn't sound like an answer to your question, this command line action is what gave me the idea of how I could help.
A little while ago I wanted to find an easy one click way to toggle my audio outputs between speakers and headphones. I searched the net for quite a while and came up with a brilliant little tool called 'Toggle Audio 7' available here: http://flexxcom.nl/2011/03/toggle-audio-7/
Once you set a couple of basic settings in the config file you're set. Each time you run the exe it runs a macro that automatically opens your audio output settings and switches the default device depending on your settings. It literally opens the the box, makes the switch and closes it all in about half a second. I don't use this with EG, I just have an icon on my taskbar which I can click to toggle the devices. However you could very easily set this exe in the 'Start Application' action, each time it's triggered, it'll toggle your audio output.
So it is pretty much as you suggested, emulated mouse clicks. Whilst it doesn't sound very clean, it absolutely is and works brilliantly. I highly recommend giving it a go.
I've attached a rar file which contains my setup. I keep this folder in my Program Files (x86) directory and set a shortcut to the exe. I have three audio output devices being 1. Speakers, 2. Headphones, 3. Digital Audio. If yours are different, you'll have to change the last bit of the config file to match where your two devices are in the list that you'll want to toggle.

big thanks for your detailed instruction. Unfortunately, this is not what I'm looking for, since this program changes the audio device.
The thing I want to do is change only the output method from stereo to surround on the same device.

But it doesn't work
In the windows audio configuration, the setup is changed to the value I set it, but the speaker output remains the same.
Do I need to do something in addition to change the registry value? Like update another value so Windows can process the change?
