Logon to Windows XP

Post by nosaj070 »

Hey All,

I am using Eventghost alongside a USB-UIRT and Harmony One and everything is working great except one issue. The computer automatically logs in to the proper User on startup, but occasionally it will go back to the user screen (currently my htpc is also my dev server). When I am at the windows Logon Screen I cannot control anything that would allow me to select the proper username and then log in. I played with Macro's and Keyboard Emulation a bit but had no luck. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance.

I do not believe this is possible, your auto start programs don't load until after you log on so Eventghost or the USBUIRT drivers aren't yet running at the log on screen.

You could try starting EG as a windows service, they start before the login screen is shown so maybe that'd do it. I havn't tried this with EG but it might work.

define go back.

try this
1 - set the user password to never expire
2 - be sure that you don't have the option "ask for password upon restore" under screen saver tab. don't know exactly, i'm using winxp in spanish.

I have the same issue, except with Vista as an HTPC. If I remote to the machine and disconnect, the main session goes back to the User Login page. EventGhost is running, but nothing works until you click the user icon to resume the session - trouble is when you rely on EventGhost to send all your mouse movements/keystrokes, you can't click the user icon.

Someone must have come across this previously - any workarounds?

Cheers,

Also - when connected remotely to the machine, EventGhost does still pick up remote control events (despite the primary display adapter showing the Windows login screen). So it's not as if it can't pick up events.

Incidentally EventGhost is running with elevated privileges in these scenarios.

Have you considered using something other than the windows remote desktop like a vnc or radmin? They use the same screen remotely where as the normal MS remote desktop locks the local user out when the remote connection has been used.

Ive avoided this in the past purely as the machine I remote from has such a small screen compared with the machine I am connecting to.

I've been playing round with this for a while. Is it remote desktop that's causing the logout? If not I suggest the auto login stuff as above. If it is then a small batch file on the desktop that does a tscon.exe 0 /dest:console will pass control back to an unlocked local machine. EG can pick up your connect/disconnect (and the tscon.exe forces a disconnect) so you can enable/disable things there if required for you remote and local sessions.

This is working very nicely for me at the moment.

Quite why EG can't emulate keys on the Welcome screen I don't know as as you say it's running and events are being captured. I tried to add an {Enter}Password{Enter} to a button on the remote without success.

hi guys.

i have just started to play around with EG and this very issue had me stumped too until I found out about TSCON.EXE.

But I'm having a problem with EG being unable to run the TSCON.EXE command on Windows 7.

Did you guys come across this issues with XP also by any chance? And what is the workaround?

My suggestion is to use the terminal server patch which allows multiple users to be logged in at the same time. This way you can log in and configure the system without interupting the main user login.

The other method is to use dameware to log into the pc and take over the main screen, that way logging out does not prompt the current user for a password.
