Hi Chris

I have to appologize, the fix for Tasker integration works fine now.
Exactly as expected.

It is essential that if somebody change varible names in Tasker once to switch On/Off tasker. Then it works fine
This is done with "ON" Button in right bottom corner in tasker window.
I dont know if this is caused by tasker or terremote, -however, it works.

Now i will start to change my configuration to make use of payloads. Lets see how it performs in long run.

thx a lot, any possibility to drop a donation ?

Good to hear that Tasker communication works. I didn't know about that On/Off issue.

If you want to make a donation, I have put a button in the upper right corner of the http://www.terremote.com homepage. Thank you in advance! I can always use some beer money. ^^

Chris

@polaris: I'm gonna write you a private message about your background issue. This is getting more and more weird...

Hi Chris

I gues you know I use terRemote only as an interface to remopte control my Droid from PC.
Normally i do no user input at terRemote itself, the App is always in background.

After heavy use during last days I found one issue:
From time to time it happens that no more connection from PC to Droid is possible.
But the Droid itself is "Online". Means I can browse Internet or stream music or whatever. So neither the Droid or Wlan is in "Sleep" mode.

Only possibility to re-establisch connection is once bring terRemote to foreground ( tap at the small symbol in notification bar) and switch to background again.
Afer this commonication is up again and I can sent commands from PC to terRemote.

Any idea about that ? Anything I can check to give you better input or help debug ?

thx

Hi there,

Really love Ter Remote program, so much I bought the pro version :)

Been great so far except on Friday both my Android devices automatically updated to the latest version. Straight after the update Ter Remote no longer works :( And then I read on here it was a problem but your quickfix update hasn't altered things for me...

In the log it says 'Server refused connection'.

@bbernhard

maybe check if the background service is still running. If your device runs low on memory, Android might kill services to free ressources. This would fit since the service is restarted (if not yet running) when terRemote is started.

You can check this in the device preferences under "running services". I think one can flag the service as being persistent (i.e. it is always restarted whenever it is killed for any reason) but I had some issues doing that. However, if this is really the case, then I will revisit it.

Does the problem not go away even after waiting for a longer time?

@armyofme
Did you already update to version 1.08b that came out on Saturday? It should fix the problem that occured with Android versions 4.x (or even 3.x and higher, I don't really know). If not it didn't help, please write to me again. You can check your versino under Options->Status.

Not right now. Which Android version do you use?

You can send me a private message or an email with your email address. I will send you the old version so you can use the app until I found the issue.

Hi Chris

The yellow terRemote Icon in the message bar was always visible, even during the time I could not connect from the PC.
I assume this means the background service is aliove ?

The setting you suggested could not be found. Any idea where to find at Android 4.0.x

However your idea with low memory situation is not too bad. Because I remember it happened two times after doing a lot of web browsing and other stuff at the Droid.

Here I can make use of the new payload feature: I will setup my PC to fetch memory usage from Tasker in regular intervalls. So i can log this and see what happens. Do you think this would help to find root cause ?

Hi

In theory the icon is set when the service starts and removed when it stops (in the usual way). I don't actually know if the routine is called when the service is stopped by the OS.

There is also a built-in warning in Tasker for low memory. You can activate it under options->misc. This might indeed help. Your regular monitoring might even be more helpful.

On Android 4.1 you can go to "(System) Settings->Apps" and then to "Running". terRemote should have exactly one service when it's running. It shouldn't be too much different on Android 4.0.x, I hope.

Best

Hi Chris

We are one step ahaed. I can force the wired situation: When produce "heavy load" on my tablet. eg open lot of APP in short time, download big files, open gallery and so on. Then suddenly connection is gone.
But yellow icon is still visible.

If I go to system Einstellungen-> Apps->Aktiv then I can find terRemote Pro, with the comment: "0 Prozesse und 1 Dienst Neustart wird durchgef├╝hrt 0.00B
But this restart never happens. It is pending forever.

Then klick on the yellow Icon -> terRemote load ( the gray screen) -> connection is working now.
Now go again to Einstellungen-> Apps->Aktiv then I can find terRemote Pro, with the comment: "1 Prozesse und 1 Dienst 9.2MB

Not shure if Memory usage is the problem. My Droid has 1Gig, Memory usage is not more than 500Meg.

Thanks for the detailed report. It does not necessarily have to be the memory. The Google documentation says "The Android system will force-stop a service only when memory is low and it must recover system resources for the activity that has user focus."

So it can be anything...

I will send you an email when I have a new test version for you ;)

The new update is uploaded.
Version 1.09 now has homescreen shortcuts and a "Wake on LAN" action. I also fixed some minor stability issues.
See the changelog for details.

Have fun :)
