TRYING TO SETUP MY WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER REMOTE

IM TRYING TO SETUP my windows media center remote and ir blaster, so i can use it in windows media center, I have a hauppague colossus card and wmc wont detect my card as a tuner but a capture device, thus it doesnt ask to setup the remote, Ive tried to follow the guide but it is a little tricky, could someone really really break it down for me and give me a hand, ive had my colossus for about two months and still dont have my remote setup with it, so frustrating, thanx in advance.

EG has no bearing on what WMC does. EG will simply convert the IR codes into keypresses for WMC. If you want to fix what you are describing as your issues, you need to consult a forum dedicated to the colossus card and/or WMC. If you want to setup EG to receive IR codes and then tell WMC what to do you need to configure your EG to do so. There are several how-tos and a Wiki that explains this in detail - do a google search and it will come right up.

i have done some searches for a tutorial and so far i havent been totally able to get through things, i got a little confused, i have a guy from the greenbutton wmc forum who is going to remote into my pc and give me a hand, Ill eventually get it done. Thanks for responding, the hauppauge blaster doesnt seem to always turn the box to the correct channel, if i go to 333, it will do 3, or 33, then maybe go to 333, eventually.

Sounds like you have a problem with your devices.

If you want to set it up using EG you really need to read the docs/tutorials about how EG works.

I have a hp windows media center remote and ir receiver, i chose the mce edition remote and the vista/7 one since i have 7 64 bit, then it says i have to download and intall an alternate plugin for the mce remote, i did so, then ran the AlternateMceIrService_x64 plugin installer, it asked me to restart, i did then i ran the AlternateMceIrService_x64 appi did, then i went back to eventghost and tried again, i then got alot of red what looks like errors in the log window on the left, what is up, the directions then say the plugin u selected will be added to the Autostart container and a dialog may appear to configure additional settings if needed. where is the autostart container, is it the window on the right, and what is with all the red letter

i c my plugin in the autostart container which i realized is on the right, it then says drag an action to an existing macro, i would assume one of my actions would say something like button 1 -9, or channel up, or something related to my remote, and i c a folder that says other examples and inside of that is a folder that says state macro example 12 and 3, what the hell is all this, y is this guide so non straightforward, im trying to set this thing up but each step is just so unclear that i feel overwhelmed, is there anybody who can further break this process down, it cant b as difficult as it seems, im a pretty tech savvy guy.

You have to uncheck the box "log only assigned and activated events" (bottom) if you want to see the events of your remote. Then you just drag and drop an event to a macro at the right

I have tried to figure this thing out but i just cant find a step by step guide, and im confused. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW ME GUIDE THAT WILL REALLY SIMPLIFY AND BREAK THINGS DOWN FOR ME, PLEASE

The short manual is linked to has the best guide I've seen, including a step by step. If you can't get it from that I think you htpc is maybe not for you... EG is as simple as it gets for htpc.

Man that guide isnt step by step, it tells me how to install the plugin, i got that, then it tells me how to create a macro and to put the action in there but it doesnt tell me how to get my stb recognized by my ir receiver and blaster, and ive had a htpc setup since 09, the problem im having is that since my colossus card is a capture card and not a tuner media center doesnt ask me to setup my remote or blaster, which is y im using eventghost.

I think you need to find the forum for the capture card you are using. Your title and first post is vague and confusing. This is a forum about EG... not WMC, not Colossus capture card, not Hauppauge blaster.

I 'think' you are saying the problem is you are trying to send IR, using your Hauppauge blaster within EG... to your Colossus capture card. IF this is the case, I have no clue how to help you. You have a lot of different components the issue could be in several places. If you can go to the Hauppauge forum or the Colossus forum you might be able to get help there.

... and also make sure the title of your Post an your description actually tells people exactly what you are trying to accomplish - part of getting help is making sure you don't frustrate the people helping you.

im trying to configure my hp windows media center ir receiver and remote to change channels on my pace rng150N comcast box by using eventghost. That is exactly what im trying to do. thanx for your help by the way

First, you need to understand the steps that need to take place for it to work and there are many...

1) teach EG all the IR codes from your Comcast remote
2) create a Macro for every activity you want to do (channel up, down, volume, all the numbers, etc)
3) create a SEND IR (I don't know exactly what it called) Action inside each macro that sends the 'learned' IR codes, using your IR Blaster, to the cable box
4) create a Trigger in each Macro - the line in the EG log from when you send the IR from your remote, to the IR Receiver and EG 'detects' it.

If ALL of that is done properly then it will work.

I have not done this... I don't have a need to nor do I have any of the equipment to test it. This hobby is about reading, trying it yourself, and then asking very specific questions when you get truly stuck. Asking general how-to questions with something this complicated makes helping difficult. The guides show everything you need to do each step and if they dont give you everything, google is your friend...
