Post by jesterod »

i was wondering about the main program of eventghost is it just a exe wrapper for python or is it a python interpeter that reads and uses the python plugins. im wondering how hard it would be to port to linux iather way... because i have a raspberry pi ordered and they say it will only be able to run linux i dont know if thats true but i doubt it would run windows very well and xbmc at the same time to be able to have my htpc and eventghost of the same box

Did anyone work on this? I am very interested in the same thing! Especially if we could integrate a EventGhost linux variant into Xbian image for Raspberry Pi? Talk about a kicking solution!

EventGhost code is too much tied to the windows, so porting to linux would be very laborious.
Of course it is possible to do a similar program for Linux.
But as far as I know (here in this forum) there is no one who should plan to do it.

Using a cheap Raspberry for EG in a small homeautomation system would of course be very interesting. For a HTPC I wonder if the performance would be enough...
One test would be to try EventGhost under Mono. This could be done first under Windows to start, to check how well Mono supports all windows calls. I have however no idea if it works, also real Linux users claim that Mono is not something they like. But if it would run on a Raspberry, I would accept to use Mono. There are also progress with Mono and armhf (hard float) to improve performance.

Best regards, Walter
