So, I can't for the life of me get event ghost to see any ir requests.

I can't see Ehome Infrared Transceiver in device manager so I can only assume my ir receiver isn't good enough

Am I right?

Will this one work?

All I want to achieve is to set some customs tasks from my remote for my PC which runs plex

Any ideas or pointers to help?
Any ir recommendations?

If your device does not show up in the Device Manager, then EventGhost can't possibly "see" it. You might want to figure that part out first - why your device isn't installed in Windows properly. My HP MCE receiver shows up under Human Interface Devices as Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver.

Your second link is just a remote control. No remote control will work until you have a functioning IR receiver. This is the typical MCE IR receiver that works. But first see if you can get the one you have working; I don't see why you can't at least get it installed.

Im going to try the HID plugin but for what ever reason, EventGhost cant see inputs from my MCE remote. So i think il buy one for myself for Christmas this week!

Just had delivered the HP receiver and remote from the link you posted... Hope your on commission!

So plugged it in and noticed Event Ghost wasn't receiving any events from my remote. Will uninstall and reinstall it tonight to do some more testing.

Is there a definitive guide on what setting are best and how to set this up?

Have you done the basics? Did you check your Device Manager to make sure it installed properly? Did you install the Microsoft MCE Remote Vista/Win7 plug-in in EG? There is a very long thread on the plug-in at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1789.
