Generic HID plugin with Zotac AD10 USB IR Receiver

Here's the deal:

I've got the Generic HID plugin on, and the one entry that works in it one of 4 that are identical (the 4th one works): PHILIPS MCE USB IR RECEIVER - SPINEL PLUS

With it on, here's what happens when I press the "down" button 4 times:

In other words, it does 3 log entries at a time, and it switches back between the "4" and "132" number.

Can I put this to use somehow? Right now it does the action 3 times and it kills me. Can I make evenghost look for "3 presses in a row" before it takes an action?

BTW: Logitech Harmony 700 Remote, set to MCE. I have windows 7 and the MCE plugin installed as well.

I don't know anything about your IR receiver, but since the code repeats three times exactly the same, why not use a single instance as your trigger? It's unlikely that anything else is going to generate that code and cause confusion.

If I drag over one of those into my tree as the trigger, it does the event 3 times. So, in my case:

Mediaportal goes down
Mediaportal goes down
Mediaportal goes down

And so on...

Actually you know what else I just realized...

It shows it 3 times in the log and acts on that press 3 times, but if I look at my system tray the EventGhost icon turns red and STAYS RED. Even if the remote is no longer pointing at the system. So it's as if it's getting the signal forever, and just not displaying/logging it.... (Normally the icon is green, and red only when a button is pressed, very shortly).

If I disable the HID plugin, then it goes green again. When I re-enable it, it's still green, until I press a button on the remote.

Argh.

We might be talking about different things. A "trigger" (actually called an Event by EG) doesn't perform any action. It just causes the items in a macro to execute. I would think that for your Action you would want to use whatever keyboard shortcuts or Windows actions that work for Mediaportal.

Yea, that's the same thing, because when I drag that trigger/event over to the right side with my macro, it executes the macro 3 times (because the trigger/event is occurring 3 times). The only fix I can see is to tell EventGhost to look for a "group of 3 in a row" - and then trigger the macro only once - but as far as I know, that's not possible? Or is it?

Oh, I see what you're saying.

I think you could still accomplish what you want, but you'd have to set up a counter and execute after the third occurrence (then reset), assuming the pattern of three is reliable enough. Seems like a lot of work considering how cheap MCE remote transceivers are.

can I set up the counter in EG somehow? I'd give it a shot probably. I rather not go buy a USB-UIRT for 50 if I can help it, ha.

Sure. I'm still a novice at EG, but it would be something like this:

Autostart section
Count = 0

CounterMacro
<Trigger/Event>
Count = Count + 1
Count == 3
If successful jump to "ExecuteMacro"

ExecuteMacro
Count = 0
perform action(s) here

The "Count" actions are python commands and Jump is an EventGhost action. You'd have to create a variant of these steps for every command, so it's pretty laborious. I know that USB UIRT is expensive. But you can get an MCE remote receiver for $12 on ebay. They're also inexpensive in Europe.

Yes, I use the Windows 7 MCE plug-in. Some people have reported different problems with the plug-in/receiver. You might want to peruse those threads. Also see this thread.

You also might want to check the Plugin for USB PC Remote Controller to see if it works with your hardware. The developer talks about handling multiple event instances.
