Import and Export

Post by scat »

I would like the option to Import and Export certain areas of my xml file, this way if a user creates all the controls for SageTV, he may export just that area of his file to share and give back to the community. Then post just that in the community and anyone could quickly add specific program setups.

Thanks for a great program

In a way, EG already has an import / export feature...

via the clipboard.

right click on an entry / folder on your Configuration Tree.
select copy (or Menu Edit->Copy in EG).
run notepad.
select menu Edit->Paste (in notepad).
save off to an xml file (or post to the forums in a code segment).

it's all there...

reverse the action to get it back into EG.

Freak'n Awesome proggie!! :lol:

Yes, Copy&Paste is quite versatile, but an Import&Export function will also be included someday.

But it is sadly not as easy as it sounds. Because all actions depend on a plugin, the export&import mechanism has to take this into account. Imagine your export uses a plugin and the importing user hasn't added it before import, then EG will not be able to even decipher the file. So there is a need for a mechanism that first looks for missing plugins, then asks the user if he wants to have added them also and after that imports the structure into the configuration.
