Please help w/ changing the channel using USB-UIRT

Post by Stalltime »

Hey guys,

I am currently controlling my TV using eventghost and USB-UIRT. I managed to figure out how to increase/decrease the volume, change channel up and down and press the power button.

They all work fine but what I cannot figure out is how to jump to a specific channel straightaway! For example entering channel 123 in event ghost would send all three IR codes sequentially and change the channel on my TV to 123.

I hope I managed to explain my problem clearly, and I hope that somebody can help me out.
Thank you.

You can easily achieve this with Multitap plugin.

Thanks wakko,
I managed to add multitap to Autostart, but it looks complicated for me. Can you please give an example on how to make it jump to channel 123 or any channel I input?

Here goes a short description by the author of the Multitap plugin.
If it's not sufficient, ask, and i'll try to explain more.

thanks again wakko,

I read through the link you provided and I think I understand some of it...
In that thread it reads "You may need just the numbers 11 and 13 and no other you need.
If so, then is not the right solution Multitap. Using Multitap You can create an event with any (even previously unknown) number."

What exactly is Pako trying to say? Also the example he posts at the bottom of the thread, is not entirely clear to me!
Is he trying to say and show that multitap can go to any random channel I input into eventghost? Or is he trying to show that you need a previously known number in order to change the channel?

Anyway, I have attached an image of my eventghost screen.
For it to work,I basically click on "power" or "channel up" followed by F5 to execute the item and make USB- UIRT change the channel or power off my TV.
Like I said before everything works fine except when I for example want to change the channel to 19 or 123."
Thanks again

Does your way of controling TV supports sending commands, like "go to the preset random channel xxx"?
If so, then Multitap is a right solution for you.

But keep in mind, what Multitap itself cannot control your TV directly. It's EventGhost plugin, which can help you to generate events you wanted.
Like, for example (i don't remember exactly event name it generates, but that not principal) eg.Multitap.channel.xxx

And only then you will able to press a few random digits on your remote, like 236, and get the event after that, like eg.Multitap.channel.236
After that you can make a macro, which will catch such events with eg.Multitap.channel.* .
And by parsing that suffix (it's very easy), you can send command to your TV to change channel to preset number 236.

No. That's the problem I cannot get to a random channel!
As you can see from the image I have posted, that I have two macros. One listing the basic functions of the TV and another listing channel 0 to 9. The macros will not do anything by itself! I have to manually click on the desired action and then press F5
I will try to fiddle again with multitab. Have you looked at the example which is at the bottom of the link you provided? Is that what I need to do? will multitab create a dialogue box for me to input the random channel number?

It seems, i totally misunderstood you, and push you into wrong direction.
You don't need Multitap plugin, if you not planning to use IR-remote.
You have to "dig" USB-UIRT plugin. Sorry.

No problem wakko. But what do you mean by "dig"?

Btw, are you really living in Siberia? It must be awfully cold over there! :┬░(

When i talking "dig", i mean you have to find a workaround with USB-UIRT, to send random IR-codes, to control your TV. But i don't know how, because i don't have a USB-UIRT controlling device.
But the goal seems not to be impossible, because with scripting you can do nearly everything.
If you control TV with it's own IR-remote, how do you switch to a random channel?
Do you sending sequence with random digits pressing? If so, then it possible (the difficult way) to preprogram some table of correspondence (USB-UIRT learned IR-codes table), and then use it. But im sure, there is a much better way.
You can try to combine already learned digits to send them simultaneously (say "5" and "6" with as short as possible pause between them) to see, will your TV go to channel "56".
That's the meaning of the "dig" in my understanding. Or that may be some kind of the your own patch you made for USB-UIRT plagin.
And about Siberia, yes, it's extremely cold here in winter. Especially in windy weather. But not today. Today is +1 Celsius degree. Africa here for now :-)

I live in South of Canada and when it's -5 to -10, I find it awfully cold! Can't imagine living in Siberia!!
btw eventghost is a great program! With a bit of difficulty I managed to control my Dyson am04 heater/fan!! :-) Where can I submit the Dyson remote IR codes so others can benefit?

@Stalltime

The good place for remote codes is remotecentral http://www.remotecentral.com/

Eventually you can find something there for your specific TV, maybe even ready IR pronto codes for those functions you need.

Best regards, Walter

PS Just one thing. Lets say that you would like to send '23'. Have you tried the following:
- capture the code for '2'
- copy paste the code you see in the window (called pronto code) to notepad
- repeat for '3'
- now in your in your action for sending '23', first paste the code for '2' then followed by the code for '3'
- try

Or, maybe better and simpler,
- create a new macro for the channel you like, as example '78'
- copy actions you already have for '7' and '8' and put them in this order in the new macro. When you run the macro, '7' will first be sent followed by '8'. If needed you can add a very short wait in between.

Thanks krambriw,
I did submit a text file to remote central.com with the Dyson AM04 infrared codes. I simply copied and pasted the relevant macro from eventghost in to that text file.
I also made macros with a list of my favorite channels. It works well.
thanks again for all the help guys
