This one should be better than BTDisco2.

The purpose is the same : hibernating the remote.

The advantage is that programs that are tied to the remote should receive the key that has been pressed to wake the remote.
This should make the use of this program transparent for the end user.

The only drawback is that the program takes something like 5-10s to run, and while it runs the remote won't work. So you won't want to run it after 10s of inactivity. You'd better choose something like 2-3 minutes.

To use it :
Create a folder BDRemoteSleep (let's say c:\BDRemoteSleep)
Extract ALL the content of the archive in this folder
Since it is a console application Open a command prompt !
navigate to the folder (C: then cd \BDRemoteSleep)
Type BDRemoteSleep help
Or if you're in a hurry, just Type BDRemoteSleep

It has been tested on Win7 x64 and should be working on any Windows Vista/7/8 x86/x64. I don't think it can work on XP.

Hi all,

I got another PS3 remote for use with EventGhost, the newer version Sony PS3 remote, but I'm running into a problem with this one...

I can pair it with my PC using [start][enter], and it works fine, but if I remove the battery even for a split second, it seems to forget the pairing. Pushing [PS3] lights up the button, but any other bluetooth keys doesn't do anything anymore.

If I delete the remote in Windows' bluetooth control panel, then re-pair them again, it works again. I'm hoping I don't have to do that every time though.

Any trick to this that I'm missing?

Yeah I saw on the XBMC Forum that other people experience this problem.

I have no idea if the culprit is the new model, or some sort of conf/parameters on the windows side.

But considering that there are really few params on Windows regarding bluetooth, I would say that this is due to the remote.

I have the old model and I don't experience this problem.

How come you cannot help yourself from removing the batteries?

I have the newest version as well, and I'm not sure it handles OS sleep. But restarts of the computer is no problem. Cannot test sleep right now because my main desktop computer is offline.

BTW which Bluetooth stack are you using?

It's easy to test :
Shutdown/Restart your computer
Open eg with the ps3remote plugin
press a key on the remote
If the remote is hibernated, you should notice a small second delay betwen the moment you press the key and when it displays in the eg event log.

Is there easy way, how i can start timer with all ps3 keys?

I think it works now. I have to modify win7 register and remove those new bt device balloon tips. And maybe i really have to drag and drop all remote keys?

But is device really sleep now? I can see device removed/attached command and there is no, or really minimal delay when i press ps3 button again. If remote is really sleeping now, that works really, really well.



Edit: One issue, xbmc lost focus and hangs. I try that silent mode too.

And now miljbee, second little job. Google some more, and make my pc wake-up with ps3 remote too.
I know, that it is possbile becouse my LOGITECH DINOVO bt desktop kit can do that.

New ps3 remote and usbuirt can wake computer, but that remote is poor to use.

For the ability to wake the pc with the remote, it won't happen. From what I have undersatnd, it can only work for KB/Mouse. The PS3 Remote is a GamePad.

Finally, I am currently integrating BDRemoteSleep to PS3BluMote. Since you use EG, you might think that you don't need PS3BluMote. But it in fact it will be helpfull, because, it can run simultaneously with eg on the PS3Plugin, and it can monitor input by it's own. So you won't need to start the timer and the app inside eg. PS3BluMote would handle this part. PS3BluMote is running in the system tray, which avoid focus problems and last, PS3BluMote will silent Device connected/disconnected event while it hibernates the remote.

To check if the remote is sleeping, press a key on it. If it is sleeping, you should notice a delay before the event fires in EG

I got a chance to test out your BDRemoteSleep program. I have both the older (without IR) and newer (with IR) PS3 Bluetooth Remotes. I use the default Microsoft Bluetooth stack in Windows 7 (64-bit) with EG version 0.4.1 r 1610.

Old (without IR) Remote

BDRemoteSleep appears to put this remote to sleep. But I cannot get the remote to wake up. I restarted the computer and same result. I physically have to remote the batteries from this remote to get it to wake up.

New (IR) Remote

BDRemoteSleep does not appear to do anything to this remote (i.e. does not hibernate). If it is putting it to sleep, the wake up is instantaneous without any delay.


Do you have any suggestions for me? I wonder if the fact that I use two remotes is causing some problems. I also have to use the discoverBT parameter to get the correct address.

Kalia,
make sure you are not messing the two bt address of the remotes. Once you are sure of the adresses, run BDRemoteSleep with the btAddress of the remote you want to sleep as a parameter.
This way, BDRemoteSleep, won't do discovery, and you will be sure that it will try to hibernate the remote that correspond to the address passed as a parameter.

Concerning the new remote, I can't tell for sure since I don't own one.

Concerning the old remote, I have two of them and I tryed BDRemoteSleep on Both.
I have tested on two computers, Both running Win7 x64, the first has the sp1, the second hasn't.
The first one has an untouched MS BT Stack, the second one has the Widcomm profile pack.

There is very smal delay. You won't even notice it, if you don't know.

This new release brings hibernation feature.

As an eventghost user, you might find this app usefull only to hibernate the remote.
It can run while eg is running with the PS3Remote plugin. It won't affect the functionnalities of the PS3Remote plugin.

When PS3BluMote is running, it will receive all the keypress from the remote. Each time it receives a keypress from the remote, it will restart it's internal hibernation timer. Once the hibernation timer expires PS3BluMote will hibernate the remote.
When hibernating the remote, it will disable device connected/disconnected sounds, and restore them when the remote will be reconnected.

The method used to hibernate the remote is the same used in BDRemoteSleep and PS3RemoteSleep. If you are familiar with these tools, you know that this method might take some time (up to 20s). While the remote is being hibernated, neither EG nor PS3Blumote will be able to receive keypress.

To setup PS3BluMote :
If you are upgrading from a previous version, backup your settings before upgrading. The upgrade shouldn't affect them, ... but who knows !
To backup your settings, simply go to the settings screen of PS3BluMote, click the blue link to open the log/settings folder and backup the files you will find here.
Close PS3BluMote (right click in the system tray/Exit)

Extract the content of the archive to a folder
Make sure your remote is paired, working and not hibernated (press any key on it)
Launch PS3BluMote.exe

By default, Hibernation is disabled, because it needs the btAddress of the remote to work.
Open the settings (right click the PS3BluMote icon on the system tray then settings).

On the settings screen, the field BT Address should contain the BTAddress of your remote. If the discovery is still running, the field contains "Searching" and is disabled. In this case wait for the discovery to finish.
If the discovery process returns only one address, The bt address field will auto fill with that address, else, it will be blank, and you will have to use the dropdown to access available addresses.

Once a correct value is set for the BTAddress, the hibernation checkbox will be enabled and you will be able to check it. Once checked, Hibernation is active. If you left the default 3 minutes for the delay, your remote will be hibernated 3 minutes later if you don't press any key on it. The timer restarts to 0 if you change the delay.

Once the remote is hibernated, the Tray icon of the PS3BluMote App becomes light Blue.

Please Note that at the moment, PS3BluMote can work with only one remote at a time.
If you have several remotes connected, use BDRemoteSleep to hibernate them selectively.
If you change the vid/pid, you will have to restart the application.

It has been tested on Win7 x64 with and without the sp1, with the Ms BT Stack and Widcomm.
I only own the old remote so I have no idea of what will happen with the new one.
