a simple key remapping

So i bought this remote for my HTPC:

i want to use the "info" button for XBMC, so i have to remap the button to send key "i" when pressed.

So far i have created a macro in EventGhost to send the "i" key...

Now what do i need to do ? I'm confused...

1) You press the 'info' button on the remote

2) You should get an event for this in the log window on the left side

3) If so, you just drag and drop the event to your macro with the action to send 'i'

4) Next time you press the 'info'....the macro will execute and the 'i' will be sent

Depending on what the Info key will do to whatever program has focus, you may find that simply using EG to send "i" may cause some issues. If it works, then great. Otherwise I would recommend a program like Intelliremote which actually modifies what the button press does to Windows.

i'm not getting any event in the log on the left side when i press the button... Or maybe its already here and i dont know what is the name

Any help ? Whatever key i press on my remote, nothing is added to the log.

Do you see other button presses from the remote being logged in EG as normal? Make sure you have unchecked the box "Log only assigned and activated events".

If you only see some buttons being logged and if this is an MCE remote I think you may have to disable the internal handling of "Media buttons" in windows / windows media center. As far as I remember the problem is that in some cases windows/windows media center would handle some MCE buttons BEFORE the button push ever gets to EventGhost, and so you could not see these buttons in the EG log. In the old days of Windows XP you could disable this behavior with an app called TweakUI. I am not sure how to do it in Vista/Win7/Win8.

I found this little guide with some googling on the XBMC forums, maybe it will help maybe not, try at your own risk.

It's simple. Click 'start' search 'add remove programs' and click. On the left hand panel next to the list of programs installed, click 'enable disable windows features'. Scroll down to ' windows media center' and disable it. Save and exit.

Also, you should know I don't use an MCE remote myself so I may not be the best source of information here..

No matter what key i press on the remote, none is logged

Do you see the device in device manager (as a usb device)?

If so, try to add the HID plugin and see if you get some events then.

So I guess your info button isn't doing anything inside XBMC for now.

there is an utility to see what keycode or appcommand is actually sent by a remote. It's called showkey. You can get it from Sourceforge.

If ShowKey doesn't see it, I don't think any program will get it. Maybe your remote is faulty.

Does the ir receiver has a led which blink when it receives signal from the remote ?
If so, does it blink when you press the info button ?

This remote is MCE certified, so, does the info button works in WMP ?

yes the LED blinks when i press the info button. I don't have WMP so i can't test
