Hey guys, i wish to find out exactly what the port number is for my remote's receiver which I use with Eventghost to control my music player, I downloaded "Currports" which is a network monitoring software that displays the list of all currently opened TCP/IP and UDP ports on your local computer, the attached files shows 2 screenshots of Currport's results, can anyone help me identify the port number i am seeking please?

What plugin are you using? the port is probably in the plugin settings or is in the source code.

You didn't say what kind of receiver you are using, so it is hard to say. Probably it is one of those open UDP ports you have.

You could use something like Wireshark to capture some traffic, so you can see what exactly is going on..

Hello, this is the thread which started it all here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1540

To answer your question, I am using the Snapstream Firefly remote and receiver:

http://www.snapstream.com/products/firefly/

One of the members here was kind enough to custom configure Evenghost to work with my music software:

http://www.otsav.com/buy-otsav-dj/

so I could control my music software with the Snapstream remote and Eventghost.

AFAIK your X10 remote is connected to your computer via USB, the remote itself does not use or cause any ethernet traffic. As long as you see the events in EG's log view while you push the buttons on your remote all that is working fine..

Now, as far as your music software, it looks like OtsAV has a remote control feature (internal http server) which you must enable before there is any chance of your EG setup to work in the way you were talking in the other thread. Please refer to the OtsAV help files to get that remote feature to work:
http://docs.otslabs.com/OtsAV/help/usin ... server.htm

If you still have problems after enabling that remote feature, let us know.. (I think it should be in tcp port 80 by default?)

I am not sure we are on the same page here? My remote with EG and OTSAV is working fine, no issues at all, I am simply trying to find out exactly which port is being used for this?

You're not being clear... " i wish to find out exactly what the port number is for my remote's receiver" ... what is a "remote's receiver" you are referring to?

your hardware does not have a port #... it is connected using USB which does not use a network port
EG only opens/uses ports the plugins tell it to use... this can be found in the plugin itself, or its docs

if you are trying to figure out how EG and your software are communicating then all you need to do it look at the plugin EG is using to do the communications.
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

Oh I see, I noticed that when I plug the receiver in certain USB ports it does not work but those ports are working fine with other devices so I had thought it was a port issue.

This line taken from the EG screen:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<EventGhost Version="918">
<Action>
EventGhost.PythonCommand(u'urllib.urlopen("http://127.0.0.1:80/x/playing.cgi?c=play")')
</Action>
</EventGhost>

That looks like an ip address? If so, the number 80 in bold, does that mean it's using port 80?

let me explain some basics :

curports won't tell you on which USB Port you have plugged a particular device.

Currports will tell you on which TCP port a program is listenning.
a TCP Port is an address which refers to a "gate" attached to a specific IP address.

If your computer runs a webserver on port 80 (which is the official port number for the http protocol), and if your computer IP Address is 192.168.0.6, then it means that from another computer on the same network, you can browse the webserver by typing http://192.168.0.6:80 in your favorite browser.
In fact you could just type http://192.168.0.6 because :80 is implied since it's http.

Concerning 127.0.0.1, it's the local loopback. This ipaddress points to itself. It means that when you are on your computer whic runs the webserver, you can browse it by typing http://127.0.0.1, which in fact is (nearly) the same as http://192.168.0.6.

So :
1 - Your remote doesn't use any TCP Port. It uses some sort of serial chat over USB
2 - EG or any other program might talk to the OTSAV webserver by sending it http request on port 80 (or any other port, it depends on how it's set up inside OTSAV)
3 - EventGhost.PythonCommand(u'urllib.urlopen("http://127.0.0.1:80/x/playing.cgi?c=play")') is a python command that will send an HTTP Get Request to the local webserver that listens on port 80. c=play probably means command, play. In your case, I think you expect the local webserver to be your OTSAV player.
