Using Switch Events...

Post by andyd »

This feature seems to be exactly what I need and awesome that it is an option. It looks like I'm not setting it up properly, though, as it's not working as I would expect it to.

Anyway, I would want Eventghost to switch between the different apps when an app is opened. It seems to work initially but since it disables everything it switch to the other app when launched. For example, I have a Windows folder setup for basic Windows navigation. When I then open up XBMC, the commands in the XBMC folder remain disabled.

I would think it is possible to switch between the two but not sure how to get a folder out of the disabled status when the app is activated.

My setup xml file is attached

Really hoping to get help with this. While checking again...

1) Is it possible to exclude a macro from being disabled even with Enabled Exclusively is active? For example, I want to be able to sleep my system with a macro but if I switch to a different app this gets disabled. I guess one solution would be to add the macro to all the folders

2) I'm not sure how to re-enable something after it's been disabled by the Enabled Exclusively macro. I assume I have to use the tasks somehow but not sure where I would put say Task Deactivated so that Eventghost knows to deactivate the folder and re active another.

For example, I want to be able to switch to XBMC. Then when switching to WMC, I want to disable XBMC and re enable WMC. Right now it's just stuck on XBMC regardless of what app has been opened

Small totally unrelated rant :D why don't people learn to search instead of wait for someone else to solve everything.

Short answer look at the "example.xml" example config in the EventGhost install dir.

Long answer provided from searching for "Enable exclusive": one button 2 different programs, Action that changes plug ins / start / opens an EG Tree?, Task Switcher does not work, if program is in focus.., EG & question about loose coupling and How to : "reactivate" folder.

Not that I know of, if you want to disable one or two items maybe "Disable an item" actions is preferable.

To enable something you use "Enable an item" action. Either directly or via an event.

I have been searching but wasn't really finding what I needed

With that said, I gave up on task / switch mode. For now, I got my config working how I want it to without it. Not sure why it's any different now (maybe because I'm using Eventghost to launch the apps?) but I'm no longer getting conflicts. Not sure what the purpose is of switch mode but I'll read through the links.

Thanks guys!

Actually, I was still having issues but jonib the post you linked to "how to: reactivate folder" helped tremendously! I ended up downloading the config that was linked there and took some ideas from there. I've been dealing with this the entire day. I should have searched for reactivate! I kept searching for the task plug in. Gah.

Thanks guys!
