EG and tranceivers

Post by LiQz0r »

Hey!

I just got a Hauppauge! Media Center remote control kit (http://store.hauppauge.com/accessories2 ... mce_remote) and this is my first time really messing with remote controls and EG, so please bear with me. To get commands from the remote into EG I'm using the Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista/Win7 plugin and it accepts almost every command correctly (the only exception is the channel button for "one channel down"/"minus", as it actually crashes EG when I hit it).

The control kit actually contains both a receiver and a transmitter, so my question is: can EG send IR signals to other devices using the transmitter? Let's say I push "1" on the remote, is there any way to tell EG "hey, fire this macro and transmit this IR signal to change input on the A/V receiver"? I'm just assuming there's ways to find the IR-codes used by different manufactures, but I might be too optimistic on that end.

If the answer here is blatantly obvious, I apologize, but as I said I have no real knowledge about these things yet.

Thanks in advance! :)

For the crashes in EG, try tapping the button. I believe the reason EG crashes is because the IR receiver is overloaded with signal. Also try going close to the IR receiver too, this has helped me in the past.

Not sure if the transmitter is supported in EG. I would see if eventghost logs any events when your device transmits. Also search online for IR-Codes. I have found them for my TV which i can send and Off to my TV/On to my TV instead of the Powerbutton toggling

IF your device is truly MCE IR compatible, then it should support IR transmit. It's right there under Add Action, then Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista/Win7. There's even an option to "Test IR Transmit Capability". You can enter Pronto commands, but some have found these not to work correctly. Learning the IR command tends to work more reliably.
