Ir Blasting options?

What I'm trying to do is pretty basic, turn off my Tv when the PC monitors goto sleep, turn it on when I wake up my computer. As far as I know eventghost is aware of all these events on my win7 system. My old TV though isn't a smart TV or has USB control or anything like that. And to have the PC just send an IR blast with the on and off function seems to really be the simplest option for automating my TV power.

So for my options I see this USB UIRT

I have one of these on hand:

Which comes with an emitter, and uses standard MCE drivers.

But I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to "transmit" IR from that Device, or even what plugin I would use on eventghost that would facilitate that.

I'm really not interested in spending $50 to 60 just to automate turning my TV on and off.

But I don't know if the plugin for it ever matured into having IR transmitting capabilities.

Curious if any of you guys have run into this problem and how you solved it.

Don't know if it's important but I also plan on automating these tasks with my note 2 via tasker and autoremote to translate an NFC tag into auto powering off the tv and computer via the autoremote plugin for eventghost.

I would start out with a USB uirt as you can see the captured and transmitted ir codes through eventghost (and other programs). I purchased one over 6 years ago and have changed many peripherals since then but always go to the usb uirt when I am having an ir problem. After you get familiar with capturing, sending, and even changing ir codes I would then A) use a Xantech connecting block to distribute the USB uirt output or B) look into iTach family of products to transmit ir signals over your home network http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/. $50 may seem like a lot but I think you will be happy you got a quality device that can take care of all you future IR automation needs.

i use the global cache. it's rock solid and consistent. also because it's ethernet, you can stash the thing in a cabinet or such, and also it has 3 outputs, so you're not flooding the room with IR, you can use it with just a tiny blaster over the input on each device.

also i wrote a very basic plug in for it, which has been rock solid too.
