LeapMotionGhost - Plugin for LeapMotion

Post by Lucleonhart »

Hey there.
I got my LeapMotion Controller on monday and after trying out all those demo tools i started coding myself.
(Wait! What the hell is a Leapmotion thingy? -> Go here)

The goal: I want to control my xbmc installation using the LeapMotion device.
I thought about the best way to do so, and cause i am already using EventGhost for my setup i started a plugin for EventGhost to receive LeapMotion inputs.

So, now i am proud to preset v0.2 of my plugin, still early testing but works pretty good already. Have a look and forgive my bad video quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JluRJWLLzzI

If you would like to give it a try, download the files from here and place the folder called "LeapMotionGhost" in the EventGhost plugins directory, normally found at C:\Program Files(x86)\EventGhost\plugins

Hope to get some feedback from you. :)

That looks like a slick device!

In what ways is it different from the capabilities of the Kinect?

Hey again.
The Leap can detect movements in 1/100th of a millimeter, so you can do tiny tiny movements.
Kinect can only track full body movements so you need to move your whole arm, etc. :)

Nice!
From your youtube movie it looks like you need the device quite near your hand.
So to operate it for TV/XBMC control, you will need to have this device below/near your hand on the couch? Are you going to use it wired or wirelessly?

It can detect movements in a pretty long distance, i chose the small distance just to get everything on the video. ;)
I am currently working on a custom coffeetable where i will fit in some electronics and i will have this little device underneath a glass at the front, so you can operate it by swiping over the table. :)

Wow can't thank you enough
I bought the leap back in 2012 hoping to use it for exactly this reason, but I was disappointed when I didn't find anything in the airspace that can control xbmc.
I'm gonna give this a try and I'll report back if I find any issues.

Thanks again

@lucleonhart
thanks again for this plugin, after using the plugin with the leap i realized that it's making the CPU run constantly between 75% - 100%. even when i'm not using the leap or it's unplugged eventghost is overloading the CPU until i remove the plugin.
i'm not sure if this is because i'm running on a slower gen laptop. (win 7, 2 GHz core 2 duo)

I understand this is still in early stages, but it would be great if you can add an option to continue scrolling left or right. for example waving my hand from left to right and stopping halfway will trigger the scrolling to continue until i drop my hand.

Hi Luc,
I LOVE it when somebody's first post includes a plugin.
A cool ass plugin for a cool ass device is a bonus.
Thanks Luc n welcome to this place.

BTW...
I just ordered a Leap from Amazon. With shipping it was less then $75.
Used once.... Like new.
I imagine tons of folks will be selling them.
(The more selling the cheaper they may get)
Glad they don't know about EG and this plugin. lol

Hi All

Just got the leapmotion yesterday and have had my eye on this plugin before going for it. However I cant get the download to work - gets to an empty dropbox link. I have left messages to the OP via other forums. Meanwhile, woudl anyone else who has it be kind enough to share a copy, please ?

Thanks in advance.

If the plugin is made available, then I could add this to the list of remote controls that I am working on.
EventGhost 0.4.1.r1640
PHX01RN plugin v3.0.1
Windows XP 32bit (v5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2)
Windows7 64bit (v6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1)

i think i have a copy of the plugin, see attached.
I cant remember what version it is, i used it a while back and realized that it over loads my CPU to 100% so since i stooped using it, but i guess i still had a copy if someone else want to try it.
maybe someone can figure out why it was putting the CPU at 100%, ( i should say the computer i tested it on was a bit old) so not sure if this will functions differently on a new pc. but would appreciate the feedback
