Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
I am trying to get things work with keymaps, but really struggling here. Two questions:
1) How can I find out what keymap my remote is using. The \programfiles\xbmx\system\keymaps folder contains 15 different keymaps and I struggle to understand which one is used by remote? Is there an easy way to find out?
2) I am trying to make adjustments to existing keymap (not add a functionality, but change an existing behaviour). I read in the wiki that I need to create a keymap in \Users\user\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\keymaps, but not clear to me what file name and whether I can just copy the original one and make modifications. If so, question again back to (1) what is the keymap that my remote is using.
Using eventghost on XBMC for Windows.
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
As you are using EventGhost (and my XBMC2 plugin?) you might not need to modify the keymaps in XBMC. What do you want to work differently?steve1977 wrote:I am trying to get things work with keymaps, but really struggling here. Two questions:
Normally a remote uses the "remote.xml". In the XBMC2 plugin anything in "Buttons\Remote" is controlled there too.1) How can I find out what keymap my remote is using. I don't think the name is important as long as it's a ".xml" in that directory and uses the correct syntax. Just copy the "remote.xml" and modify it.2) I am trying to make adjustments to existing keymap (not add a functionality, but change an existing behaviour). Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I am using your plugin version 0.6.3d.
I am using an apple remote and have mapped the 7 available keys with XBMC2/buttons/remote/ in eventghost.
There are quite some things that I would like to behave differently:
1) When watching a movie and selecting "back" ("XBMC2: back"), it goes back to the movie menu, but keeps playing the movie in the background. I would like ("XBMC2: back") to be mapped as stop when playing a movie, but to be mapped as back when in a menu.
2) When watching a movie, I would like to be able to change the audio volume ("volumeup") pressing "up". Again, would like "up" to move up when in menu, but do volumeup when watching a movie
A few other tiny things, but these are the most critical two.
Any thoughts whether this can be done with your plugin in remoteghost or I will need to edit the keymap? And if keymap, how would I do this?

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
You could use the event notification of this great plug-in when a movie is playing, to enable a folder containing the macro to press stop, but when the movie finishes, it disables that same folder so the macro no longer works.steve1977 wrote:There are quite some things that I would like to behave differently
And vice versa with the folder containing the normal back function, i.e. enable and disable it based on whether a movie is playing or not.
Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
This may be a way, but shouldn't it be much easier by using the keymap. Any thoughts?blaher wrote:You could use the event notification of this great plug-in when a movie is playing, to enable a folder containing the macro to press stop, but when the movie finishes, it disables that same folder so the macro no longer works.steve1977 wrote:There are quite some things that I would like to behave differently

I actually first started using EventGhost because modifying the keymap was such a nightmare, but each to his own.steve1977 wrote:This may be a way, but shouldn't it be much easier by using the keymap. Any thoughts?

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Yes the default remote controls aren't that useful with the Apple remote. I tried to add support for the Appleremote specific keymap "joystick.AppleRemote.xml" before but failed to figure out how, but now I made a new effort and I have added support for the Apple remote keymap.steve1977 wrote:I am using an apple remote and have mapped the 7 available keys with XBMC2/buttons/remote/ in eventghost.
Try the new Apple remote support in the attached test version. The new actions are in "Buttons\AppleRemote", I added (hopefully) all buttons from the "joystick.AppleRemote.xml" keymap. I might change how I added the Apple remote support when I add support for the other keymaps. So you might need to reassign the actions in a later version. There are quite some things that I would like to behave differently:

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Apologies for not replying earlier. Really appreciate you adding the keymap support. I am travelling over the last days and will only be back to my computer tonight. I am very eager to get this working, so rest assured that I will get back to you with feedback. Thanks again for developing this plugin.jonib wrote:So any feedback about the added AppleRemote keymap support? I didn't add it for my own sake.

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Finally had the chance to try it out. Thanks again for developing this. It is partially working, but still a few things are not. Below summary of everything:
What works:
1) Left, left (hold), right, right (hold) all work and do what they are supposed to do. Also, I like it that left and right translate into +-30sec when watching a movie. This is well done and works as it does on the ATV.
2) Center works to select files/videos and also plays and pauses movies when watching a movie. This is well done!
What does not work or only partially works
1) Plus and minus work, but there are two things missing:
* plus (long) and minus (long). Not an issue as I could do this myself
* plus and minus do not translate into volumeup and volumedown when playing videos. This works with the original ATV keymap/remote, but not using eventghost/plugin
2) "hold menu" works well to get into context menu. However, it does not work well when watching a video. It actually brings me back to the video selection, while it is supposed to bring up the OSD when watching video.
3) "Stop" works well to stop a movie or trailer. However, it does not allow to get back to previous screen when in the movie selection menu
In sum, out of the 7 key of the ATV, 3 work well (left, right, center), 2 almost work (up and down) and two still need work (hold menu and stop)
Let me know if any other information is helpful to further improve the plugin. Thanks a lot!!!

What did you have to do?What does not work or only partially works
1) Plus and minus work, but there are two things missing:

First off I don't use the volume function within XBMC. So this seems strange as the plus and minus buttons seem to be sent correctly to XBMC, and the AppleRemote keymap seem to map them to vol up/down when in fullscreen video mode.* plus and minus do not translate into volumeup and volumedown when playing videos. This works with the original ATV keymap/remote, but not using eventghost/plugin
But I can't figure out why they don't work, and now remote\vol+ and remote\vol- don't seem to do anything either (sometimes). Actions\VolumeUp and Actions\VolumeDown works fine.
Edit: I tried to put the volume in a different button and it still don't work, I put the OSD on the plus button and that worked. So it seems the VolumeUp/Down just don't want to work.
This is something you need to change in the joystick.AppleRemote.xml keymap.2) "hold menu" works well to get into context menu. However, it does not work well when watching a video. It actually brings me back to the video selection, while it is supposed to bring up the OSD when watching video.
This also needs to be changed in the joystick.AppleRemote.xml keymap.3) "Stop" works well to stop a movie or trailer. However, it does not allow to get back to previous screen when in the movie selection menu
Well feedback both positive and negative (constructive) seems to be what gets me to work on the plugin.Let me know if any other information is helpful to further improve the plugin. Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
This is fantastic, thanks a lot. I will give it a try over the weekend to fix the keymap.
I actually like the volup/voldown as it makes me independent of my tv remote and I can control everything with the apple remote. I can get volup/voldown to work when mapping it in actions, but this happens also in the menu. It is quite weirtd thazt +/- does not do anything when in fullscreen video. Any other idea?
Thanks again, really great work!!!

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Hi Jonib I wonder if you may be able to help me I have just started using eventghost and the XBMC2 plugin using JSONRPC but I am a bit lost as to how as a lot of the functions return errors and there is no option to modify the command for example if I wanted to get artist details how do I enter the artist name?
any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
You are using a recent test version? What errors are you getting? There should be options and a place to input parameters when you configure a JSON-RPC action.Ace5342 wrote:Hi Jonib I wonder if you may be able to help me I have just started using eventghost and the XBMC2 plugin using JSONRPC but I am a bit lost as to how as a lot of the functions return errors and there is no option to modify the command for example if I wanted to get artist details how do I enter the artist name?
I'll give an example how to get the artist details later (I'm going to bed right now, so good night

Re: Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat)
Hi Jonib
I have installed the latest version from the link in this thread (on page 55 I think). Most of the time I get a -32602 error.
I see the input box and have tried to put in JSON RPC in there like but I get a -32601 error Method not found.
what I would like to do with your plugin for example is get the name of the current artist and then use that result to make further requests like GetSong by this artist and then play them.
This looks like it will be possible with your plugin as the methods are all there I just don't know how to use it.
thank you for taking the time to reply.
James
