Help, I want my remote control back.

Post by Minefield »

I'm running a windows 7 Media Center PC, with a Microsoft media center remote that comes with an USB IR receiver.
I installed eventghost so I could control stereoscopic player with my remote. I assumed that my remote would act as normal then I could set it to do specific things once I was in Stereoscopic Player. I now know that I was wrong.
I installed EG (0.4.1.r1640) added the MCE win 7 remote plug in then rebooted my machine. Now the remote doesn't do anything. I've uninstalled EG hoping that it would put my system back how it was, but it hasn't, my remote still doesn't work (i.e. can't do anything like navigate ect).
Does anyone know how I can get my MCE remote control system back to how it was before I installed EG.

Thanks.

Open/run services.msc, find the AlternateMceIrService, Stop it, then Disable it, then Reboot.

I don't think that will fix the OP's problem. Here's how to fix it:

When you configure the MCE Vista/Win7 plugin, and click the "Install service" button (it says something similar to that), it makes some registry changes.

If you want to use both the events in EG, and also keep your remote working the way it used to work, you need to change the registry after pressing the "Install service" button inside the plugin.

Here's an old post of mine on this subject. Read the post linked below, and then click the link that says "this post" within that post.

And don't forget to reboot after you double-click the .reg file!
