1) The current version DOES NOT support Ethernet (TCP/IP) control. RS232 only!

2) The current version DOES NOT support the NEW Marantz protocol. Only the OLD Marantz protocol is supported.
The protocol is also changed for these newer receivers. I've just checked the protocol documentation for the newer range of AV receivers. For more info, see:

I'm currently quite busy, support for this new protocol is not going to be implemented very soon. If you are familiar to programming (in Python), you may want to give it a try yourself.
If not, which functions are you specifically looking for to be implemented?

I've written a fairly quick and dirty Marantz TCP (ethernet) plugin that might do the trick. Only volume commands are implemented specifically at the moment, but there's also a customisable command which you can use to implement arbitrary commands from the command list.

Hello!

I have a Marantz SR6001. Still need to get the serial cable... well I got the cable, but need a gender changer .
I noticed that I would like some functionality that is supported according to the serial command list of the amplifier, but not present in the plugin. Is it just a matter of adding the correct commands in the correct fomat in the .py file? Or should more things be done?
(particularly, I would like the commands to set the multiroom output)

I'm not sure if the newer series are still using the same request/response structure. You could try to add the commands. All commands are defined in a big lookup table at the beginning of the .py file, so if you have the commands themselves, adding new commands should be quite simple.

The SR6001 is not very new, and I think it complies still with the old standard. Thanks for confirming that it suffices to add commands to the .py file. I'll add the ones I need (or more ) and test it. If it works, I'll post the file here.
(may take me some time still: sourcing a DB9 gender changer is more difficult than I anticipated )

Long time ago i built such a cable myself. Indeed gender on the marantz is strange. I think cross cable or null-modem cable is what you need, but I'm not sure about that. I'll look into it.

It needs to be a straight cable. I now use a delock usb-rs232 cable and a straight gender changer. The commands I tested work (I had to adjust a setting on the amplifier to allow it to be switched on via rs232: in the menu, the setting Standby had to be set from Economic to Normal).
So I can start adding the commands I need. Thanks! I'll post the file here then.

I started adding commands, and just adding them to the .py is indeed sufficient.

Perhaps interesting to note is that some commands are different between reference and plugin.
The different PLII(x) surround modes in the reference have commands SUR:03, SUR:05, SUR:07. In the plugin file, they have the commands SUR:04, SUR:06, SUR:08. However, my amplifier responds correctly to both the commands in the plugin as those in the reference.
The commands to select analog input/digital input/auto are not in the linked reference, but they are in the plugin file and my amplifier also responds correctly to them. I already have the functionality I need (the one in the plugin + multiroom), but may add more commands to have more control (my amplifier is positioned at an angle, which puts it outside of IR range; having full control through EventGhost could be usefull).
The reference for the SR6003 (http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages ... tId=SR6003) is an xls file that also lists commands for other models, including the SR6001. It gives a bit more details (e.g. the surroundmodes seem to be different: PLII vs PLII(x)), and lists more commands that are supported by the SR6001.

O just curious: what benefit would controlling via MarantzControl give? At the moment, I'm using direct serial port...

Nice! I own a sr-5600 receiver and used (parts) of that command list. However, i currently dont use eg anymore since im now using xbmc under linux.

The marantzcontrol app allows to adjust main volume mute and power of the marantz via the pc keyboard volume and mute keys and also shows an osd bargraph of the current volume.
However, it currently lacks a pass through mode and supports only few extra commands, so direct serial is better.

I think I have all the commands, but I renamed them to match the Marantz reference;I used "Marantz_RS232C_Command_List-Receiver_All.xls" from this archive as main reference:

The commands are named as they are in the column "function". I used the description to indicate different behaviour for my amplifer (e.g. the source select names or input a/d select, which differ).

I was curious about reading values, and tried it. On a terminal program, it works. I then tried the regular Serial plugin. It can send (not when your plugin is loaded, I suspect only one has access to the serial port), but to my surprise, writing and a subsequent reading does not work... Perhaps there is to much delay? While I don't really need to read out values, I'll check how you do it for the relative volume. I already verified that the Marantz is not sending events (it does not send changes to its serial port), it has to be asked before it sends something. But I don't know Python and it is nothing urgent, so I'll first try to get it working as it is, which is still a lot of work. And will get back to it later.

It is addictive... and I got hooked on it.
So I decided to complete it first (I would love to make a web interface to the amplifier using the new Tornado plugin).

I have all the commands and most of the statusses. Your plugin was great as a basis, I did not even know Python and managed to pull it off! I just need to add a few more commands (e.g. @SRC:? returns a more complicated result that combines video and audio input), and I'll upload the file. Part of me is hoping to finish it in the weekend, so I can get started on the websockets (I would love to have the whole webinterface ready in 2 weeks).

I have attached my version of the .py file.

It has a different GUID and different classname. I figured this was best, as the commands are no longer compatible with the original MarantzSerial plugin. To install it, copy the MarantzSerial folder to e.g. MarantzRS232 and replace the .py file with the supplied one.

Many were already tested using a Marantz SR6001, but not all have been tested yet. I expect to do that in a few weeks time, but wanted to upload the file (good backup location ).
