Using Eventghost with X10 remote
Hi,
Is it possible to use this remote with the X10 mouse-remote: http://www.x10.com/products/x10_mk19a.htm.
I would like to use the X10 remote to control GBPVR and have read the "short manual" on the Eventghost wiki as well as the "Controlling your Living Room" article. I understand the Firefly remote in the above article was connected to the computer using a USB connector. Is there any additional work in getting Evenghost to work with the mouseRemote connected to the serial port of the computer?
Also, would I need to install any included software/drivers?
Thanks for any help,
-Topper

No, the remote will not work with EventGhost currently. It would need a special written plugin. So the only chance is someone with the needed programming skills and a sample remote would write it someday.

Can you elaborate on why it wouldn't work?
I guess based on the articles on the wiki, it appeared that the Firefly remote also uses the same X10 protocol since its manufactured by X10 for snapstream. Other than the serial port interface instead of USB, mouseremote seemed similar to the firefly remote. Plus, after my last post, it looked like there was some serial port interface plugin, so I thought it had a good chance to work.
Thanks for any input,

Thanks for the clarification!
Do you think it would be possible to use the X10-plugin (w/ X10-USB driver) if I used a serial to USB adapter and connected the RF receiver of the mouseRemote to the USB port?
The mouseRemote also comes with a serial to PS/2 adapter and I could also use a PS/2 to USB adapter to connect to the USB port if that's better for the X10-USB driver.
Would either of these options help make it work?
Thanks,
-Topper

No, none of them.
Do you already have a MouseRemote?
I don't expect the MouseRemote serial protocol to be much complicated, but it will need some coding and without a sample its quite unlikely possible.

Yes, I do have a MouseRemote! I also have the adapters I mentioned in the previous post, if that's any help (for testing).
If I understand what you are saying correctly, the problem is not the remote itself, but how the commands from the RF receiver are sent to Windows via the serial port - is that correct?
Thanks,
-Topper

I came across this program. From the documentation, it sounds like it extends the software included by the manufacturer.Bitmonster wrote: I don't expect the MouseRemote serial protocol to be much complicated, but it will need some coding and without a sample its quite unlikely possible.
Looks like it hasn't been updated in awhile, so not sure if it will work with newer operating systems (XP, Vista, etc). I tried going through it, but it didn't make much sense to me, but perhaps you may find some sample code that may help you.
Do you think this program might be helpful to incorporate mouseremote functionality in Eventghost?
Appreciate the help,

I don't need sample code. I need a sample remote.
The basic protocol is relative clear to me, but it would be quite useless to try to write a plugin without a remote on my desk to test it out.

If its a separate add-on plugin, I can help test the plugin. Let me know if that would work.Bitmonster wrote:I don't need sample code. I need a sample remote.

Geeze guys buy him a remote if you want it to work... He has basically said ~if~ he had one it ~might~ happen. I get the feeling if some soul sent him one it would.
I mean he made the whole rest of the app, for you, for free...
I don't know Bitmonster personally but I'm sure he's thinking geeze buy a remote that already works already.

Re: Using Eventghost with X10 remote
Hi All!
I was just introduced to EventGhost last week, and already I have it working nicely with Vista controlling Media Center with an ATI remote Wonder Plus. I also have an X10 Mouse Remote I would like to use with it because of it's increased range over the ATI Remote wonder.
I played with the serial plugin with it, and it does allow the reciever to flash, but there is no events generated in EG. I suppose this is where BitMonster would concentrate his efforts.
I come here today to investigate the support for the mouseremote, and discovered this thread.
I assume that BitMonster hasn't recieved a remote as yet.... Correct?
If not, and if Topper is still interested, perhaps we could go halvsies on a new remote for BitMonster to use for developement...
BitMonster got PayPal?
Otherwise, where would it need to be sent, and what kind of postage we looking at?
I too am/was a girder user. I'm currently stuck at version 3.3 due to lack of plugin support in versions 4 & 5. Up until my switch to Vista, I was happy with Girder, but 3.3 doesn't seem to run as happily as it did with XP. I've been passing many events to another scripting app called AutoHotkeys to accomplish my tasks. I'm afraid I'm coming to the end of the Girder tracks.

Viewing Toppers profile, I might be talking to myself.

Unless he is subscribed to this topic, we may be waiting a long time for his answer.
So, That said, What'll it take to get you a remote BitMonster? and how far down the road would it be reasonable to think that this will happen, after you recieve it?
I simply must have my Remote Wonder, and all it's capabilities!

Re: Using Eventghost with X10 remote
You might well be better off just buying a SnapStream FireFly, they work very well, they are cheap, and they are already fully supported.
