EventGhost and HDMI-CEC?

Hi, I'm trying to automate turning on and off my projector if certain programs are running. I can easily detect whether or not Netflix or XBMC is running and run actions if they are. HDMI-CEC always works, wherein I turn on the PC and the project will turn on.

The problem that I can't figure out, is being able to control WHEN the projector is turned on. I don't want it on all the time, because I use the regular monitor occasionally, and am not using the projector. I was thinking that there might be an HDMI-CEC plugin for EventGhost that could handle this for me, but I only came across RCAware (discontinued) and PulseEight (no EG integration).

I wouldn't like to have another remote control, but I'd consider it if it were able to control the mouse/KB to send commands to XBMC and move the mouse for Netflix (and turn on/off the projector).

I do have a Veralite. Perhaps all I would need is a simple module that cuts off or gives power to the projector. EventGhost would be able to turn the module on, which gives power to the projector, which would pick up an HDMI-CEC signal and turn on (because the PC is on)? I haven't tested that yet, but it seems like an easy test to unplug and replug the projector with HDMI-CEC setup.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? I'd like to keep my remote control to either ONE remote or ONE Android app.

Vera with a Z-Wave module would be the easy. EventGhost can turn the power on to the module, and thus projector, only when you choose to.

You don't say what brand/model of projector you have, but this sounds like a bad idea. Most projectors run the fan for awhile after they're turned off to cool down the bulb. As for turning on, my projector (Panasonic PT-AE4000U) has two power switches, a switch that physically disconnects the power, and another power toggle. Just supplying power doesn't turn the projector on.

Does your projector have serial control? Have you considered an IR blaster for control? How about ethernet control? These are all relatively inexpensive options if your projector has the capability.

That's a good point, so you need a module that can read the Watts currently being used. I use the same method for my computer, (where you don't just want to cut power either), by running a timer when the Watts drop below a designated number: when the timer completes the power goes off.

Yeah, the same with mine, but with the power on, the HDMI-CEC will turn it on.

Serial, or ethernet would be the best option by far; I wish my projector had the option. I use the IR blaster option, USB-UIRT with my Vera.

I've been using EventGhost with the PulseEight adapter for 6 months, works perfectly!

There is a plugin on this forum, and it works with my Epson projector and Onkyo AV Receiver. I highly recommend the PulseEight and the plugin
