Using MCE Receiver as extender

I have a HP MCE receiver and remote (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-MCE-KIT ... 43ba456658). It works brilliantly out of the box to control my media player on Windows. All that without even using eventghost. It works very well with the included remote to control my HTPC (which the receiver is connected to via USB).

I am now trying to accomplish something different, which I am not sure whether this is possible and whether eventghost can help with that.

I understand that I can also use this receiver to blast / extend signals of other remotes. I pointed my sat-receiver remote control to it and the HP receiver indeed shows a red light that indicates to me that it receives a signal. I have an IR emitter cable plugged into the HP receiver with the other end pointing to the sat-receiver.

Unfortunately, this blasting function does not work at all. When looking at the end of the IR emittent cable, no light lights up when using the remote (neither with the HP remote nor with any other remote). The red light only lights up at the HP receiver, but not at the end of the IR emittent cable.

Any idea how I can get this working and what role eventghost can play? Thanks!!!

Hello steve1977,

The MCE receiver is not meant to be an extender.
To get the blaster working, you have to use the "Transmit IR" function in EventGhost, this function can blast an IR code that was learned in a previous step.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am aware that it is not meant to be this way, but curious whether it is possible.

How would I go ahead to "build" what you are describing above? Is there something to build on or do I need to start from scratch?

Thanks, no need to use the MCE plugin? Can I blast to both outputs separately?

Of course you have to use the MCE Remote - Vista/win7 Plugin and install the service out of it, otherwise you are not able to use a function called "Transmit IR"

Thanks for your advice. I have tried this, but still do not succeed to get the "blasting" working. What I have done:

1) Installed the MS MCE Remote - Vista / Win7 plugin

2) I did not succeed to install the service, but some of the error code indicates that it is already installed

3) I plugged in my IR emittent cable (same cable that you see in the ebay link) to exit 1 of the MCE receiver and the "lense" over receiving end of my sat box

4) I have added a macro (transmit IR) and learnt one of the buttons from my satbox remote control

5) Unfortunately, this button does not get blasted to the satbox. Two different issues:
A) When pointing my satbox remote to the MCE receiver, the macro reacts and no error is shown in EG. However, no reaction at the satbox
B) When executing the macro manually, basically the same, but the IR emittent cable blinks red at the "lense", but also no reaction at the satbox

You have to execute Eventghost as Admin (right click, run as Admin on eventghost exe) to install the service.

The rest should be ok...

I hope you set the learn counter higher than 1 when learning the IR code? Otherwise it's very likely that the learned code is not correct. (while learning press the buttons on the source remote as short as possible)

You can check if your blaster blasts by watching the IR emitter through a digital camera.

I executed the installer as admin when installing eventghost, but this did not work. You sure it is related to this? If so, how can I install the service after having installed eventghost already?

It may be. Yes you can.
Run eventghost as Admin -> open plugin information of MCE remote plugin -> click the button install (try the uninstall button if install is not working and th err n the install button again)

I would recommend something like 3, but the higher, the better.
