All I want is a simply connection from Tasker to Eventghost

Post by bitric »

Hello everybody!
Since a week I am interest in home automation and I am amazed what kind of powerful tools EG and tasker are.
As written in the headline I want to realize a connection from my Andoid device to my PC.
I`ve tried several possibilities but nothing works yet.

AutoRemote lite:
If I try to register EG with the EG plugin, I get one of the following error messages depending on weather I set the local IPs or let it get automatically:

Code: Select all

Fehler in Befehl: "AutoRemote: Registering on Handy"
 Traceback (most recent call last) (1669):

File "C:\Program Files (x86)\EventGhost\plugins\AutoRemote\__init__.py", line 1266, in __call__
 localip = GetLocalIp(self.plugin)

 localip = socket.gethostbyname(socket.gethostname())
 gaierror: [Errno 11001] getaddrinfo failed

Code: Select all

Couldn't make request via the internet: <urlopen error [Errno 11001] getaddrinfo failed>
Couldn't send Request
-Firewall was deactivated
-With the URL goo.gl/XxXxXx I get a connection to my phone. Works fine
-The AutoRemote Windows App doesnÔÇÖt work too. The App is crashing and I get a Framework error
-use the current plugin version

EventGhost Tasker Plugin:

I installed the App and the Tasker plugin several times but the plugin is still not displayed in Tasker?

TerRemote:
(with TerRemote you can send simple TCP Signals to EG if the EG network receiver plugin is installed.)

I installed both again, tasker plugin and android app. The app worked very fine, it was the first time that
I get a signal in EG from my Android device and I was happy as hell but when tried it by tasker it doesnÔÇÖt work.
I configure it according to the description. Set an event in tasker, made a macro in the android app, set the app to listening
but it seems that the command from tasker does not arrives the android app. Also in the logs I canÔÇÖt see a signal from tasker.

What I also tried is the Send/Expect tasker plugin and the UDP-Sender tasker plugin but also without luck. No reaction in EG.

The last change is the Webserver-plugin where I can send HTML Signal by tasker but that would be a solution that does not like very much.

Finally I give up, maybe anybody can give me a hint or foolproof description how I can make this happen.
I am using Win7 Enterprise 64Bit SP1 build 7601 / Eventghost 0.4.1 r1969 / Android 4.4.2 cyanogenmod
Kind regards

Another possibility is PushBullet and PushBullet plugin.

EventGhost Tasker Plugin:
I think it's a plugin for EventGhost on the phone to let it talk to Tasker, not the other way around.

Hi bitric,

If you were able to get terRemote to send events to eventghost then the problem may be with tasker (or cyanogenmod).
Did you install tasker before any tasker plugins? As others (including myself) have had problems with tasker-plugins when the tasker-plugins where installed before tasker. Is Tasker Active (is the lightning Icon shown in the android status bar? Is Tasker "On" in in the android Accessibility Menu (I'm not sure how this is in cyanogen)?

Since you could get terRemote to send events I will start there event though sending UDP from tasker may be easier.

TerRemote:

1) install terRemote or terRemot Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... z.de&hl=en or https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .com&hl=en
2) install the terRemote tasker plugin https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .com&hl=en
3) In terRemote go to Menu->Options and CheckÔÇ£Listen to network eventsÔÇØ then click ÔÇ£FeaturesÔÇØ and check ÔÇ£Listen to Tasker eventsÔÇØ back-out of terRemote (all the way to the home screen) and restart device. After restarted open terRemote.
4) In tasker create a new task named ÔÇ£Eg TestÔÇØ then add an action->Plugin->terRemote. Click Edit (pencil) in the Configuration. Under Event type ÔÇ£TestÔÇØ. Back-out of Configuration Edit, then back-out of of Action Edit, then backout of Task Edit. Save tasker (Click the tasker Icon).
5) In tasker go into the task ÔÇ£Eg TestÔÇØ and click the play button
6) In terRemote go to Menu->Options->Show event log. Is the ÔÇ£Tasker event ÔÇô TestÔÇØ listed?
If the answer is yes then you still need to set the port and passwored in ÔÇ£Server ConfigurationÔÇØ of terRemote to match that of eventghost and make a macro to pass the tasker event from terRemote to eventghost.

Tasker UDP Sender Plugin (the easier way if you only need one way communication)

1) install the UDP Sender Plugin https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .udpsender
2) In eventghost add the Broadcaster Plugin with the following: UDP port: 33333, listening Address: Ip address of your computer. Save Eventghost
3) In Tasker
Select a new task, select plugin, select UDP Sender, select edit:
Destination IP: ip address of computer running evenghost
Port: 33333
Text: Test
Save your task then go into the task and press play.
Did the event show in the eventghost log?

Hope this Helps,
Javier

@Javier:
It appears that it is too complicated.
I believe that it works, but PushBullet has one huge advantage when compared with this solution (and moreover it is less complicated):
This works even if the smartphone is on a different network than the PC with EventGhost !
Another advantage is that the connection (the ability to send commands / queries) is a bidirectional.

Thank you for your replies.
@Pako
I am just tried PushBullet with your plugin and it works fine thank you very much for the tip.
Even if it is a only temporary solution for me because I don't have a good feeling when all my action will be logged by a third party.

@Javier
Thanks a lot for your time and the detailed answer. I followed your description to configure terRemote exactly.
(I think I made it like your description even before only without restart my device) Unfortunately there is nothing in the event log.
The UDP solution I would like best, I only need a connection from my Android to my PC. I tried it before and I became a mile long error message
when I installed the plugin. When I tried it again today it starts and works perfectly without problems. :D

@Telorast
sounds logical ;)

Have a nice day

Hello again,

My success message yesterday was a bit too early.
Yesterday after I noticed that the broadcaster plugin worked fine I also tested autoremote.
What a surprise autoremote worked fine as well. (All this after I installed the PushBullet plugin + Win App)
It seems that was not a specific error of the respective plugins but rather a general connection problem of EG.
Today after a restart of my Pc it is everything as usual, nothing works. The same error as before and also PushBullet has no connectivity.
There was an automatic windows update before I switched my PC off. Is possibly Windows root of evil ;)

Anybody an idea why EG cannot establish a connection with my network. The Win-firewall and also the normal firewall is disabled.

Kind regards
