Never the same code

Post by Chris Dodge »

Hello,

I use an USBUIRT with Eventghost and and a new Harmony 650 and I am under Windows XP.

Eventghost doesn't alwais receive the same IR code when I press several times on a single button on the remote !

I moved the receiver and changed USB port, I recharge the USB-UIRT driver but nothing changes

anyone have an idea?

Kinda hard to say whats going on without seeing what codes you get. It could be bad signal or a special IR encoding.

Hello jonib

Here a screen with a test by pressing the up button on the remote (=keyboard shortcuts up).
The code should be USB_UIRT.SIRC20.FAD79, but often this is another code which is received by the computer

Hmm, those codes look a bit too consistent for interference. Sorry can't help you. Hopefully someone else has some ideas.

Hi Chris,

Glad to see you got the USB-Uirt to work,

In my experience some IR protocols work better than others when dealing with distance, interference (as jonib hinted), hardware (such as repeaters), and some will toggle though multiple codes. So I would try to use a protocol such as "NEC". In my experience I have the best experience with "NEC", this will show up as USB_UIRT.NEC.XXXXXXX in the EG Log (XXXXXXXX being the code sent). Does your Harmony have the ability to learn codes? Or can you change the Harmony output to a device which does not send repeat codes or end codes (only one code will show up when pressed)... Also there is a program called "IR tool" available on the remote central website (I will upload a copy if requested) that can change the IR codes sent including repeat codes, but the program would only be of use to you if your remote is a learning remote which can learn clean (no repeat or end codes sent after the desired code) from the USB-Uirt.

Good Luck,
Javier

I thought of many things but not the IR protocol !
The Harmony remote is programmable by computer, simply select the name of a device and the codes are inserted automatically.
Until now I used the codes of any Sony DVD player (which I do not possess) to control my computer.
So I replaced the Sony DVD player by a NEC TV and now no more wrong codes !

I would never have found it without your help

a big thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
