EventGhost + Snapstream Firefly = disabled @ startup!

Post by stisev »

Using latest version (EventGhost_0.3.6_build_1114) on XP SP2 (all patches applied), with a Snapstream Firefly Remote, I get the following error on startup:

Code: Select all

---> Welcome to EventGhost <---
Error starting plugin: X10 Remote
No X10 receiver found!
Main.OnInit
Main.OnInitAfterBoot
System.DeviceRemoved ['\\\\?\\HID#Vid_2233&Pid_6323#8&22e16080&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}']
System.DeviceAttached ['\\\\?\\HID#Vid_2233&Pid_6323#8&22e16080&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}']
Mouse.XButton1
Mouse.XButton2

If I exit EventGhost and open it again, it works - I get only this:

Code: Select all

Main.OnInit
I followed the directions listed here:
http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378

Including:
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "EventGhost" /HIGH "C:\Program Files\EventGhost\EventGhost.exe""
and
After the first run, you will find an option "defaultThreadStartTimeout" in the config.py file (inside EG's application data folder). Try to increase this value (defaults to 5 seconds) till you get no more timeout errors. It will not influence the "WAIT_TIMEOUT for HookThread" error. This one needs some more work.
But neither worked. :(

Is the X10 driver installed?

Depending on which one. I use the Snapstream.exe driver set. It is installed. When I close EventGhost, then reopen, it works fine, so the drivers are properly installed.

Yes, I've tried connecting the USB receiver DIRECTLY to the computer AND in a powered USB2 hub. Same problem, in either location!
I think this is a EventGhost problem.

Any suggestions?

Are you using the FireFly drivers or generic x10 remote drivers? Both can work just the snapstream version has all the correct keymapping.

Are you calling the FireFly in the x10 remote plugin config? (remote type)

I used snapstream.exe. It basically runs in Taskmanager with high ram usage and then quits. as far as I can tell, it's installing drivers and then quits. It's just the drivers. I've tried just the "x10setupnovideo.exe" drivers, but it didn't work well IIRC.

What does it say in your device manager?

The Firefly driver can be dl from
http://www.snapstream.net/download/Firefly_Drivers.aspx

You DO NOT want the full Snapstream remote software to be running, no tray icons aside from that of EventGhost.

Hi Collin,

No, Firefly software isn't installed or running - just the driver itself./

Here's the driver I'm using:

And you don't get this error with an older version of EventGhost like 0.3.5c?

Now, I'm not getting the error message. I have to close EventGhost and reopen to see the commands. THEN, after an undetermined amount of time (perhaps 5-10 min), EventGhost stops responding to commands from my remote. I have get up, close and reopen EventGhost to get it to see the remote again! Very frustrating.

Problem happens with EventGhost 0.3.5c as well.

This doesn't look like an EG problem. Could be a faulty driver (try reinstalling) or faulty hardware (loose contact for example).

I'll investigate the driver issue. I've tried both drivers and both have this behavior.

AFAIK, there's two drivers:
Snapstream.exe (from firefly)
X10's generic drivers

And then therre's this: http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/x10setupnovideo.exe
I'm not really sure what that x10setupnovideo file does. Any help?

I don't think it's a loose connection. The IR's light is fully red, the usb is directly connected to the comp (with powered hub doesn't help either), and there's no loose connections.

x10setupnovideo.exe is the generic x10 remote driver.

Hi Bit,

I tried x10setupnovideo.exe, but I ran into all sorts of problems. I uninstalled the driver and went back to Snapstream's drivers.

I'm having a different issue now with EG. The remote works (for the most part on startup), but then looses connectivity. This occured from the last 3-5 beta releases or so. Downgrading to 0.3.5 and the problem disappears.

What do you think it could be? I thought it may be drivers earlier, but now I'm not so sure. Is there a special debug version I could use so you could see exactly what's going on?

Does the remote work right with a 100% snapstream setup?

I have never had any kind of issues with my FireFly and I have been using it for over a year at least.
