Can't change volume (Win 7)

Hello, I need some help, this is making me crazy! I cannot get the volume controls to work on my new HTPC.

I've tried the latest EG (r1700) as well as 0.4.1r1669 which is the version that works fine on my old HTPC. Both are Win 7 64bit machines.

It should take no more than opening the "change master volume" action item window in Example.xml and hitting "Test" for it to change the system volume, correct? When I do, the volume does not change. I've selected the different devices and still nothing. My default output device is "Realtek Digital Output(Optical)" and I'm using the onboard audio from an Asus Grypon Z87 micro atx board, in case there are known issues.

Hopefully I'm just forgetting something simple, please help, changing volume is the most important thing I need to get working.

So no one has a clue why EventGhost won't change my system volume on this PC? Any ideas?? The Log that appears to the left shows no problems. It appears to issue the command to change the volume but no volume change happens. All commands but the volume control work just fine.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this further? Is there more detailed logging available?? Changing volume is hugely important on this PC for me.

Hi there monkeexyz. I am having the same issue, but my primary is the analog side of the Realtek soundcard. My current workaround is to change to volume at the application level using the XBMC2 plugin. The problems started some time in the past 2-3 weeks.

Ok I figured out what is wrong but still need help fixing it. After testing I discovered that Eventghost is working but changing the WRONG volume output (not the one I am using and NOT the one it is set to use). I think it's a bug in Eventghost?

As you can see in the screenshot, I have my default volume output set to "Realtek (Optical)". Eventghost changes the other Realtek (non default, non optical) volume instead of the default one. It changes that wrong volume output when it is set to device: Primary, Realtek, or "Realtek (Optical)". No matter what device I select, EG won't change "Realtek (Optical)" even though it is the windows default.

DCJamison, can you check to see if EG is working but changing the volume on the wrong output device?

It is driving me mad not being able to change my system volume on my HTPC. Please help! Thanks!

It is changing the volume on another audio device for me related to my remote. specifically a Modiotek USB Headset - usb wireless remote with a headset jack on the bottom that I use that is interfering with everything I guess, but it is a great remote and it worked fine until this issue cropped up.

Hi, I suffered from the same issue (Win7 x64, volume does not change on the desired device).
Thank you monkeexyz for sharing your findings regarding the volume change on the wrong device.

I did some further investigations and came up with the following findings:
The device where the volume was actually changed was further up top in the sound settings and the name was similar to the device where I wanted to change the volume.
Previously both their names started with the same string and only differed after 16 characters.

So I tried the following workaround:
I opened the Sound settings in the Control Panel and renamed both sound devices (via properties).
Now the sound device names are distinguishable from the first character and it works again like a charm.

Maybe this is a (known?) limitation/issue of the used VistaVolEvents/VistaVolumeDLL?
I hope this workaround by renaming the sound devices works for you as well.
The screenshot you posted shows that the same condition with the similar device names also applies to your current system configuration.
