[OT] 2 Snapstream Firefly Remotes -able to different. in EG?

Post by stisev »

Hi guys,

I have a snapstream firefly (RF) for my server (HTPC). I'm planning to get another Snapstream Firefly Remote for my laptop to control the same programs that run on my server (winamp, zoomplayer, etc) as well. My question is, will this even work? Won't one remote control both computers? I guess there would be no way of getting EG to recognize the differences?

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways (possibly EG-related?) to get this to work?

You can set an ID of the remote (between 1-16) and limit the plugins to receive only certain IDs.

I have a Firefly and a generic x10 remote, as Bitmonster discribes it works well. :D

The only thing I don't know about is if you can change the IDs or if anyone ever gets 2 with the same ID, or if EG assigns the IDs as it finds them and so no need for concern.

The ID can be changed at the remote. Must be documented somewhere in your remote manual. Nearly all X10 remotes I have seen have a "Setup" button, that you need to hold down for a pair of seconds. After that the LED flashes for the number of the ID (ID1 = one flash, ..., ID16 = sixteen flashes). Then you type the new ID with the number pad and again press the Setup button. The LED should then indicate the new ID.

Sweet!

Google got me this:
google query wrote: Hold the firefly button pressed until the LED begins to flash. Dial in your desired channel using the numeric keypad on the remote. This should be a number between 1-16. No leading zeros. Once you dial the channel you want, hit the Firefly button once. You've now reset the channel on your remote.
I feel like a goof now, I went through them one by one when I setup my two remotes. I could have just set them to 1 and 2 and it would have taken no time to get going.

I love my Firefly remotes. I have 4 of them, two for the TV in the bedroom and two for the Livingroom (so me and my wife have our own remotes). I have now reduced my setup to a TV, Receiver, and a PC. Even threw out the regular DVD player and I'm using EG with USB-UIRTs to control it all, and adding more functions all the time.

Needless to say, the WAF is *WAY* up lately.

I am, of course, using different channels for each pair
