any USB RF device like USBUIRT?

Post by Stalltime »

hello guys,

I find eventghost and USB-UIRT extremely useful in controlling all my infrared remote controls in my room. But I have a radio frequency remote control that I would like to be able to control using Event ghost. Is there any USB radiofrequency device Blaster like USB-UIRT?

I cannot use any universal remote control like Logitech Harmony because I am handicapped and can only control stuff using my computer and event ghost.

Just to clarify: you cannot control your handheld remote control from EG. Are you asking how EG can control DEVICES that you normally control with the remote? If so, it depends on what type of devices you have. If it is devices used for controlling lamps and other energy consumers it might be possible.

One product that might work for you is the RFXtrx. This device is able to listen to some remote controls (X10 and ATI Remote Wonder compatibles) and forward messages to EG as events. Those events can be used in EG to trigger any kind of action including sending out a new rf-command (blasting as you say but using rf instead)

But there are some buts to figure out first:
- check that your remote control can be recognized by the RFXtrx
- investigate what kind of devices you like to control and if they are supported by the RFXtrx

A good place to start is to check out the RFXtrx home page: http://www.rfxcom.com/epages/78165469.s ... ansceivers

For support, when you have identified brand and type of all your devices you wish to control, mail them and ask if they are supported

I wouldn't say that's impossible, as I did it once
But if you can control your devices via RFXtrx or Tellstick or some other PC gateway it will be much better.
There is no all universal RF transceiver, RFXtrx is the closest you can get, as far as I know.
(I soldered wires to my RF remote BTW.)
If you like my work, Image me a drink

hi guys.
Thanks for the reply.

Yes I cannot handle any physical remote control, so I use event ghost and USBUIRT as a universal remote control! I programed event ghost to control all functions for my Samsung TV, cable box, Asus media player and my Dyson AM05 heater/fan. I was able to do that because they all have infrared remote controls.
Only my electric bed uses radio frequency remote control! Can RFXtrx help me control my electric bed through event ghost?

Here is how the bed remote looks like:

The only thing that is written on it is "signature series adjusta magic"! On the back of the mode there is an FCC number.

Thanks again guys.

Not to my knowledge but if you mail your question to RFXCOM they would give you a proper answer. If not, I can only see the solution that Sem;colon mentioned but that is requiring some work with relays and soldering iron

BTW Haven't I seen this somewhere where a remote for exactly such a bed was hijacked with wires from relays...

semi:colon suggestion is too complicated for me :┬░(

Anyway I'm not that desperate, but I thought it would be a very useful function to have if it was easy to implement.

Thanks guys
