and hell first before all else. engage in this forum and teach python. questions now are answers tomorrow.


plugins are free developement. show how to and they will make. the more that is available the better it will become.


and last but not least. FREE is FREE i would rather be the pitcher than the receiver...

so stick it to the big corps.

Man it kills me to see this unbelievable central system and it's just scrapping the surface.

but it has hit a plateau. unless it receives some kind of injection of creativity it will become NetScape.


Hit every Home automation Forum. and every device manufacturer call them. email them post messages. unless people know and there is a community willing to do for them. with nothing more than a pat on the back and simple "Thank You" it won't work.


I have said before I like cheerios.

And me Personally... the more I am told it can't be done..


The harder I try. and when I succeed (not IF). Pushes me to the next challenge...

I posted here a while ago in a plugin forum. and I was killing myself trying to learn.. and asking for help..

and NO answer.

I almost gave up..


but then i said to myself. screw this. I am going to learn.. very hard it was and I know what i make is borderline crap. but ya know something...

We need to have some kind of core of people that focus on creating and helping. and never belittling. peopel that CODE are not GOD, so get rid of the complex..


we were all once asking the simple questions hoping for a simple answer. not the.. "well if you post code we might be able to answer you"


that crap is like the fat person in the gym..

bust out the lucky charms box. go digging and get that secret decoder ring. and decrypt what the person is asking...

that could be the next huge plugin dev for EG.. so put the hand out and say... "F' it, lets try and make something kewl. and i'll explain as we go..

I agree with your post.
That would be nice ...
However - there is, unfortunately, very few people who are really willing to engage in work.
We need:
1) Setting specific goals (we can use brainstorming and then voting)
2) Some management (let's say 2-4 people) for distributing and coordinating work
3) Plenty of people who will do the work.
You can count on me for the 3rd group. I'm not a person who is suitable for management.

it seems as tho you are pretty much the person that is heading up EG.

can we set up a sticky asking for people that are interested in helping. kinda a sign up list per say.

I'm in for anything that's required. I don't know a huge amount of python but I am sure as hell willing to learn and brainstorm.

and maybe another sticky or some kind of pole people can vote on with say 5 items and the poll will dictate the order in which they are done.

I'm not sure if there is already a system for doing this but here's a suggestion: Create an Initiatives or Proposals forum section. Anyone can post a proposed goal. Two topics are created for each proposal with links to each other, one is for discussion, the other for voting only. Voting continues until a set quorum is reached, maybe it would require a 2/3 majority of votes to pass. Possibly admins could have a veto power?

Please consider moving the repository to GitHub, it has features that I think would streamline this process greatly as well as making it easier for the community to contribute.

I'm willing to contribute my time towards creating and editing documentation, testing, and anything else I have the skills for. I have not been able to reliably load eventghost.net from my internet connection in the past but kgschlosser was kind enough to give me access to his machine last night so now I can visit the forum.

To all the newish people that read this. step up. there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

what was my join date??? maybe 4 months ago.

I never coded a thing in python before. And before march of this year I never coded a thing period.

I learned by reading, and no one helping me, that is why I started this post. I fell that with guidance I could be much farther along.

I believe that if people are willing to help and support new people that want to try EventGhost it will grow.

EventGhost controls my whole home. it's not just something to handle remote controls.

and we need to show that..

Oh and one other thing. If you don't have the connection speeds or the computer speeds that you would think would hinder you from learning to dev for the best home automation program on the planet.....

i have done it once I will do it again..

i am willing to give out for dev purposes 4 cores at 3.2 ghz per core. if asked for more it is available,

HDD space would be dynamic. raid 6 for storage.

OS will usually be on the same raid 6. unless max speed is a must. i only have a 120 gig avail on a 4 drive SSD stripe that is not redundant for the max spped option. . always running. always available (unless moles get through the pipe underground and eat some wires).

if you want a machine I can give it to you, you just have to be able to support an RDP connection.

I can and will eliminate any excuse.

There was a previous effort by Cfull1 to transition to GitHub. He hasn't posted in over a year.

Yes I've read that post and am familiar with the multiple EventGhost repositories on GitHub, all of which are out of date. The trouble is the actual switch to using the repository was never made so the effort did more harm than good. Someone took the time to submit a pull request and received no response from any of the collaborators. I had to tell them to try at Sourceforge instead. If these repositories are abandoned then they should be deleted or at the very least post a notice with a link to the active repository and disable pull requests and issues. It will take a little effort to transition to using the new system but I really think it will be worth it because:

• It makes it easier for people to contribute
• There is a much stronger community on GitHub which means more contributors
• GitHub has features that make administration of the project easier
• sourceforge uses unethical business practices(see https://notepad-plus-plus.org/news/note ... es-sf.html).

Hi there , I have no knowledge in programming , try to learn from what you scripts's and programmers are doing , I had in the past viewed video's on Learning Python for dummies ,which is me , I don't know what part I can play here but willing to give service to this project

Thanks! I think there are quite a few of us who feel this same way. I have found small bugs and typos in several of the standard plugins but there is no easy, effective way to push patches to the project. I see typos in the wiki but I can't edit it. A bit of work on the project infrastructure to make it easier for people to contribute would pay back many times over by more fully utilizing the resources of the EventGhost community.

I have little experience with code, english is not my native language, other then that I would be glad to contribute - not sure what I could do, but I'd do anything to help EG move forward along with the community.

I do agree that a lot of stuff could be done, but we also have to keep in mind everything that already has been done and what people still keep on doing. There are a lot of great guys (and women probably) here, keep up the good work!

Yes a big thanks to Pako, the admins and a great community! With the "internet of things" being the buzzword in electronics and software at the moment the community could attract more active members. Eventghost is a very complete and free hub like tool for lot's of automation.

I'm no Python programmer but as being a graphic designer I could contribute to the visual aspect of the Eventghost project. Perhaps there is interest in a visual overhaul of the corporate identity and website?
