Untick the box down the bottom left, press your key combo, and then drag the event over to your macro, like in the pic.

thanks blaher. I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to press all my keyboard shortcuts, that's why control+ F5 did not work. However, when I asked my caregiver to press it using the keyboard, it worked just fine.

I guess keyboard plug-in and Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13 is not compatible!! :┬░(

Here is a crude way to do it which might help someone in my situation.

Make a new file in eventghost.
Instead of making a macro, put all desired actions in autostart.
Save the file and close eventghost.
Go to the file location and make a shortcut.
Right-click on the shortcut, select properties and assign the desired shortcut keys.
Push the shortcut keys to launch eventghost and execute the file!

I hope that makes sense and helps someone someday.

You're right! I just tried it with NaturallySpeaking 12 and it doesn't show up either. What are you trying to accomplish when you launch EventGhost? I know you can use Dragon to run things automatically just by saying:"open Microsoft Word", for example.

If you give the forum some specifics, there might be a less roundabout way to doing what you want without having to even remember keyboard shortcuts.

One way to do it would be to name the batch file as something you want to happen, for example: Turn Fan Off.bat

So you would make a new text file, and inside write:

C:\Program Files (x86)\EventGhost\EventGhost.exe" -event FanOff

and then save it as: Turn Fan Off.bat

I only tried saving the batch file the desktop, and it worked, but I'm not sure where else Dragon will search for.

Now when you say: "Open turn fan off" you will get an event in EventGhost called Main.FanOff which you can then use to blast infrared, or flip a Z-Wave switch, or whatever you're using to control the fan. It might be a bit more intuitive than trying to remember shortcut keys.

I have a smart lightbulb called lifx , and I was trying to build a macro to email my lightbulb to turn off or on. Then it will launch a website "IFTTT" to make sure that it has received the command [my email].
I did all that, but found it a hassle to open event ghost, highlight the macro, and press F5 using Dragon NaturallySpeaking! That's why I was looking for a keyboard shortcut! But your solution works perfectly .

By the way, I could not find a way to send an email nor open a website using eventghost. So I placed them in a batch file, and used event ghost's launch application.

I use a Z-Wave switch for my light, and use a few methods to control it, or set timers. http://imgur.com/a/PLLAf is how I use my timers for going to sleep, which might be handy for your carers perhaps. The icons can send an event to EG, or directly to the switch with right app.

Thanks blaher for letting me know That I can create a lifx plug-in!! I will investigated and see if it's better than what IFTTT allows me to do!

IFTTT and lifx does some of the fancy stuff that Z-wave does. E.g. set a time when the lights turn on or off, turn on/off on sunset/sunrise, blink/change colour on weather conditions etc.

I will definitely investigate Z-wave door lock! It would be very nice to have a different access code for each carer and get an email off who used it!

No, I don't have one, but Z-Wave isn't cloud based, it runs off a local server, or hub like a http://getvera.com/

You can have them do what you describe above though, or unlock it manually by logging onto a web page like in the picture, or you can do the same trick with Dragon above and make an 'open door.bat' file, and have EG talk to the Z-Wave lock, via your controller.

No, I think you're misunderstanding. It's not 'their' website, that's just the webpage of the hub, and yes, you need it regardless of EventGhost. EG talks to the hub, which in turn does the locks, lights, etc. Once it's setup, you don't often need the webpage interface. What can't be automated fully is where things like tablets, phones, remotes, EG, voice recog, etc. come in to control your device.

Just like my tablet screens above, it talks to the hub, then it sets timers, etc on the hub.

But just like cloud based stuff, you can control it from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.
