Re: Vera Plugin
oh man o man, i coupled the ramping with a plugin for mediaportal that handles my pretty much every video screen, when i play a movie and i slow that ramp down to a 3 minute fade or raise it awesome.
i have said time and time again EG is the best home automation solution available.
i run mediaportal with a dedicated TV and DVR server backend, massive movie library massive video game library and digital Cable networked with a 6 tuner rackmount that comcast pays me to use to descramble their crap so i can watch TV ( Federal Law ), now coupled with the ability to dim the lights and raise the lights on play stop and pause
look out IMAX
we bring it into everyone's home

sorry got my rocks off on the ramping because it completed my solution to crappy switch problems

Re: Vera Plugin
Although there is no requirement to start a new plugin topic, it will make things much easier for end users. That has been the trend when a plugin has been abandoned and someone else takes over development. For most plugins, you find the plugin code and instructions in the first post. Here's an example of what could happen if you don't: Let's say you post a final working version on page 20 of the thread. Then there are five to six pages of discussion, questions, comments, etc. A new user coming along would be unlikely to know where the current version is located or that there is even a new version other than what is in the first post. Nobody wants to look through twenty-five pages to find the working version. That's my two cents and I'd ask you to consider it since I'd like your work to provide the most benefit.kgschlosser wrote:also, this version is a spawn of what m19 started and this is what it has blossomed into, there is no real need to create yet another thread for the same kind of plugin because this is a modification of what has already been made.
Deleting all references to the existing plugin is problematic because it makes the transition so much more difficult since you can't just look at each use and migrate it. That's another reason to start fresh so that there is no conflict between plugins.
Please don't take this as any criticism. I am grateful that you are sharing your talent with me.

Re: Vera Plugin
Another Addition
I added watts calculations for lights and any other device that has user settable wattage in it
it defaults to saving a file to ProgramFiles(x86)\EventGhost\Plugins\MicasaVerdeVera
I have not added the ability to set custom file locations and file names.
I probably will in the future
it will store the data indefinatly
when using the Action you will have the option to select what month you want to know the data for as well as setting a single device for the calculation or all devices
you also have the option to add the price you pay per KiloWatt Hour
if the file is not made in that location it will make it automatically provided the directory exists
upon launching EG it will load the file and then read the data from the vera and make the appropriate adjustments..
I have it set up to write to the file every time something changes. just in case of an EG crash the data will be as up to date as possible. requires alittle more overhead. especially if you have a 3YO that likes to run around and turn the lights on and off.
I thought it is well worth it.
and if it's to much for yer puter. then it's time to upgrade. SSD's make snappy work of it.
Thanks again
as always any suggestions or comments will be helpful
Oh one other thing. if the data is alittle moofed when you try and use it. go ahead and turn a couple of lights on and off then try it again. there is a bug in there somewhere when it initially starts to gather the data for the first time. but it only happens when the file is newly created,
and only 2-3 light state changes
file is attached

Re: Vera Plugin
Can you post your LUA code for the Dimming of this Jasco Switch?kgschlosser wrote: #3 I have been cursed with a type of Jasco dimmer which has a goobered up firmware on them which will allow proper ramping from the switch but not from a zwave command. And of course Jasco denies this problem even tho there are forums about it. which causes a not so instant on to the desired dim level. horrible when i have eventghost trigger the lights up in my media room after a movie stops playing.
so i made up a script that iterates through each percentage while it works the vera unit does not properly process each percentage unless it's very slow like half a second between each command. which is far to long a time to dim the lights. so if i speed it up it jumps not a nice smooth action. wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same problem.

Re: Vera Plugin
Good work @kgschlosser from 186 lines to 1275. Just downloaded it and took a look at the code, I like it. I took a 8 month break because my EG has been working great.
I think you should start a new thread so you have the ability to edit post one with the current release and release notes as needed. Your plugin is way more than the one I started with
If you agree. I can update the subject of this thread to retired and then add a link to your post.
Good job!!

Re: Vera Plugin
Thanks,
The original plugin was good when it worked the problem was with the asyncore i could have just replaced the asyncore with threading instead on the old plugin and it would have worked fine. but i thought that the plugin needed more to it. and i just found it easier to recode the whole thing.
and most of the new plugin is configure panel stuff.
i am still very new to python maybe like 6 months and i would love to find a way to combine the configure panel code into one class i just haven't messed around with it. but that would eliminate a heap of repeat code.
the actual code of the plugin is parsing the data from the vera and the way i did it is only about 50 lines of code i don't know as to why the makers of the vera would have the thing outputted as a json but have the data put into only 4 dict keys and one of the dict keys being devices and then have all the devices put into a list and then have a dict inside a list under a list.
they should have just did devices and then the device number and the data under that
it's pretty stupid if you ask me to have to iterate through every device looking for the actual device you want.
so i have it convert the data into a container called self.VDL and it looks for diferences between the self.VDL and the reformatted incoming data and then pops an event based on the change.
so... neat thing is.. if you change something like say a device name on the vera it will put a notice in the log about it. i really didn't see the need to have it trigger an event on say something like that it will also put a notice if a device is added or removed.
i have just recently figured out how to have user friendly names instead of device numbers in the config panels and to have the names be used when triggering an action.
there are still a couple of anomalies i have to sort out but nothing major. more of a personal annoyance than anything.
if there are any special vera plugin that you use that you would like to have control over let me know. I have the vera web api pretty much sorted as to how to create the href properly to do what is needed.
if you look at the bottom of the script code you can look at all of the standard vera href's.
my next addition will be to the energy calculation portion to pull the current use data. i also want to add a feature to have it randomly turn on and off lights in the house at random times. good for a vacation mode, i also want to add an all on or all off feature as well as a way to have it pop open a window for viewing security cameras.
