Done, thanks. We'll see what happens. I have already decieded to try fixed IP on the VM instead of DHCP, maybe it's a DHCP error. There has been 11 disconnects during the night... If I can't get it this way I will try to put an extra network card in the host just for this VM and see if that changes anything. I have put one new computer on the net the last days, but I'm not sure if that was before, after or during this.

No help in going to a static IP. Does this help you understand what's going on?

THANK GOD! It wasn't the new computer that I have up on the net, that would have been a problem because it's the media server, and the motherboard doesn't have room for another network card. I have been running for an hour, and it happened again. Here's the log:

I had pings going on at the same time in Visual Ping with 100 ms wait, both to 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.1, and there was no dropped packages at all when this happened or any other time. Also I have the USB devices on an USB over TCPIP connection, and if the network falls as much as a second (probably much less) they will all disconnect, which doesn't happen here. I think I will stop the server and put an extra network card for this VM into it, a special network card that's not shared with anything.

Wow, it happened again while I was writing the previous message. So something is very funky here.

Edit: And again. It resets the plug-in, but it doesn't fix it.

I obviuosly need to have my head examined... I had a separate card in the server/host already, dedicated to the automation VM. I just wasn't using it. So now I have started using it, and we'll see if that changes anything. Stay tuned for more episodes of "L├Âdder"! (I do remember correctly that you're at an age where you remember that series, right? Or "Soap", as it was originally called. In Norway it was "Forviklingar", which would be something like "Entanglements".)

INFO: socket.error 1 timed out
This indicates that there is a time out problem in the socket connection. I have right now no clue if there is a possibility to have a longer such, needs to be investigated

Also, sensor time outs are handled separately and has nothing to do with this problem

I thought so about the sensors. In the meantime after an hour or so without problems it started to happen again with the separate network card, so it's not that.

The time out is already set to a generous value. When the plugin starts it is 5 seconds to start and then re-configures itself to the value you have configured (in your case 60 seconds). Googling a bit shows that this problem is a network issue and cannot be solved by the client software. We are already trying re-connections etc if this happens.

You mentioned that the software has worked for long time without any problems. Software (like the plugin python software) does not suddenly break down. Something must have happened in the operating system affecting the network connectivity. When this happens, have you looked in the log of ONH?

Not before I haven't, but I have now! Here's something:

Code: Select all

It seems to have a lot of disconnects here. Some are messing up the plug-in, but not all. Should I try to update Java and see if something happens?

And would you like the full log file?

Edit: Not much info about that error on Google, I found this:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1359 ... ecv-failed

But I'm not really getting much help from it.

Oh, and you're right, stuff doesn't just go bad. I have no idea why this happened, but I have been working a lot on the attic lately, getting the technical stuff ready for the buyer. Maybe I should go up there and pull and reseat all the network cables? Mind you, the server is in a different room, and that hasn't been touched, so the problem isn't directly on the server.

I'm updating Java now, even though I know it hasn't "gone bad". I will also restart my Asus wifi router, just in case that har anything to do with it, I moved the cable and some stuff, but I can't remember if that was before or after this started.

I think the problem is with ONH, it looks similar to the problems I reported long time ago

I do think you should post the log sections + eventually complete log to Stefan at the ONH forum

OK, thanks! I will. I'll just copy some of the observations from this thread.

Two hours without problems after the Java update and the restart of the Wifi router. Crossing my fingers...

Edit: Nope, back again. I should have held my big mouth shut.

If you are running both EG and ONH in the same machine (virtual or non-virtual) try to see if it works with localhost as host name (On most platforms, this will take a shortcut around a couple of layers of network code and be quite a bit faster).

Thanks a lot, I'll try that! I did a full restart of the host, with half a minute without power (instead of just a reboot), and it has behaved for half an hour now. But of course that's happened before. I won't change anything else right now, but in a couple of hours I'll use the localhost trick.
