EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals

I haven't been active on the forum in a long time. But I was the one that basically made the move to GitHub. My time is very limited at this point, but Blackwind hit the ground running once github was setup. There were several things that needed fixing not being SVN anymore.

The biggest frustration for me with this project was the inability to contribute to the codebase. That's why I pushed so hard for GitHub. I know blackwind feels the same way. And we both wish this forum was so much better, but don't have access.

For what it's worth, I completely vouch for blackwind and his commitment to this project and his capabilities.

A quick 'voices' check has some surprising (for me at least) results

The rules I folowed:
1. Select top 12 pages of the members list (all users that have a least 8 posts) but include all plugin developers (550 users of 6191 members Registered).
2. Calculate a post per day ratio based on the number of days since date joined and the number of posts.
3. Trim the selection to include only the users with a ratio >= 0,01 (242 users of 550).
4. Scrape the profile information from the forum to get the day last logged in.
5. Add some weights to Days Member and Days Missing In Action.
6. Calculate a score = Post Per Day * ((Days Member * Weight) - (Days MIA * Weight))

The top 25 voices we should abide to all hail @Walter

Surprises:
- Only 4 plugin developers remaining; I expected more them in the top of the list; There are 31 registered in the forum
- Quite some more active users then I expected visiting this forum on a quite regular basis

It's crystal clear you don't much care for me for whatever reason, but to give the keys to the kingdom instead to someone who's been here a week? Nothing against you, dequi -- you seem like someone who's on the level -- but I'm not sure I've ever in my life witnessed a more stunning display of disrespect and irresponsibility. You should be ashamed of yourself, zian.

I'm going to make this as simple as I can -- either zian steps aside immediately, or I do. I'm not prepared to work any longer under someone who, by his own admission, knows nothing and has no passion for the project; someone who doesn't respect those who've contributed a thousand fold to the project what he has; someone who puts every single one of our computers and networks at risk by handing out administrative access like it's candy to kids in a classroom. This is someone who cannot and MUST not hold the keys to our particular kingdom any longer.

You've been dragging this project down for years, zian, and it's now time for you to step aside. By all means, do so in the manner you see fit -- transfer everything to Pako if it makes you feel better -- but do it, and do it quickly. Like your tenure here, my patience for you has come to an end.

Thanks for bringing this to a head, dequi. It's been a long time coming, and although I've been laser-focused on the beta, this is just as important to the future of EventGhost.

I just used the metrics that I could find (his profile doesn't list the last time he logged in) had to find his last post.

I surely don't have gotten the "keys to the kingdom" as you state it here, it's more or less the key to the backdoor to let my self in to do some of the painting. In his defence zian has offered them to you as well a couple of days ago. I just created a goDaddy account (it's free) to accept them and he gave some access rights to his account, no more no less. But it is a start to get things going again.
I was indeed taken by surprise that he chose me, according to my own assesment I'm only the 84th meaningfull person around here, as long as none of the oldtimers log back in.

I also know I need to include some GitHub metrics as well because your efforts should really give you a place you deserve at the top 5, way above me.

@blackwind: I really hope you don't make the decision to step aside. Your efforts and dedication persuaded me to post my first suggestion here on the board. And your answer drove me to ask the questions and push for growth, openness and progress

I shared the keys with him mostly based on attitude.
And that is the exact same reason I did not hand you the access to the website over a year ago or whenever it was you and I had this conversation last.

If you care so much about this project/program it would be a shame to see you go.

Yeah sorry about that, it is bit of a bad occupational habit of mine to try to classify as much as possible before diving heads deep into a new project.
Should have kept this to myself. Let it be noted that this was a feeble attempt to get the lay of the land. An single mans opinion, not even totally correct.

But for me it suited it's purpose to define that out of the 6191 registered members there still are about 100 who still care enough to keep this project alive.
That most check in at least once a month (good to know if holding some kind of poll), that it is only a handfull of you that support the big amount of n00b support questions on plugins you might not have written yourself.
I think I currently have a decent indication who is who, and what deep passion you all hold to the EventGhost project.

I think that's not a bad weeks work in a forum with 36379 posts over 4979 topics written by 6191 users.

I also am aware of the massive effort blackwind and cfull1 did to get this project back to live on GitHub. As a only mediocre coder you both have my fullest respect. (I've been reading a lot of posts)

Browsing trough the Github _build/builder code I think blackwind already has the way (or at least a big part of the way) ready to move forward to get more guides, documentation structured on the website with a simple workflow that allows for users to contribute easily. If the 0.5.0 version comes out of beta it deserves a smashing website imago upgrade.

I do have some questions that I have to iron out in my head and ask blackwind, and a lot of studying to do, to get the expectations that I had as a novice EventGhost user translated in a possible way forward.

One thing is at least clear to me, if you don't already know how to use git/GitHub it's time to start studying (I am). Public accounts are free to create.

- mediaWiki database last backup was on (never)

A full offline backup of all files and databases is now sorted. We can restore if needed.

on the list for tomorrow: a first cleanup, located a bunch of tests and test-setups

I'll chime in here just from a forum user and fan's perspective. Kgschlosser helps out a lot around the forums, and he'll even setup remote sessions to help users. If you browse a lot of the topics around here, he is probably in around half of them helping people out. He has helped me personally, and I think from a customer service view point, he is someone I would want to have around helping out. Just my 2 cents.
